Have you looked into the Key Mixer Node?
That’s what it’s for. You can add and substract.

February 19, 2014 at 5:51 pm in reply to: Can mac see full GPU RAM of 4GB non flashed PC card? – Will it still run slower than flashed? The final answer talking to the head of tech of a large post house down the block) is: Yes and No
Yes a PC card will run at full speed in OSX, but on the PC side (in Bootcamp) it will still act like a PCI 1.0 connection even in a 16X slot. In an older 2008 Mac Pro, a PC card will run in 1.0 mode under both OSs (not confirmed, as they have no more 2008s to check – but probably/rumor has it)
MacVidcards flashed cards also ensure that power draw is never dangerous, and that heat is reasonable for a Pro enclosure, which is more of a long term issue than short (he said they’ve had Pro burn-outs longer term with PC cards, and none with MacVidCards, but they may have really pushed the power thing too far – hard to say). Mac Vid Cards does limit power usage inside the card for cards certified to work without a PSU. Apparently, also, stability is just a bit better.
For me, I think it’s better to have peace of mind than risk my expensive tower, and I use the PC side a lot wfor Pc-only software, so an extra $200 was not a very big issue. I tend to like the “cry-once” buying philosophy whenever possible, but that’s just me.

Does it make a big difference in PC, where PCI 01 is still the limit when using Bootcamp?

Not “Oh Brother”.
Resolve is a great tool, but now the focus of the product is split between very different types of users, so compromises are made differently, by necessity.
Other products with only one kind if user can develop in different, more focussed directions.
Its’ even a hardware consideration. If a system demands only one specific hardware, then more functions can be put in, and tested on that specific hardware, and that exact hardware pushed to its exact, known limits. if you are supplying software that runs on thousands of different configs, then you may chose to make compromises that makes more features useable on more machines – aim for the middle in terms in quality vs. performance.
I’m not criticizing Resolve, I’m just saying that this is a fact – and explains why not all their choices make sense to many users in this forum.
Adobe is in the same conundrum, other more market specific systems are not – to BM and Adobe’s credit, there are no easy answers to this problem.
E-on Vue solved this issue by offering very easy and very hard sections in their software, and that worked, but not all software are as easy to “split” like that.

I don’t know if BM listens.
On this forum we have experienced, trained users.
But the market for BM is primarily Vimeo kiddies buying cheap output cards for Resolve Light.
BM is trying to create “My First Color Grader” because 99% of their revenue/users are at that stage, and many will never move beyond that.
If you look at Baselight or Mistika, you see another approach, aimed exclusively at experienced, sophisticated users. Very, very powerful, but I doubt beginners not interested in investing real time and effort in learning not just the software, but advanced concepts as well, would have much fun using Mistika or Baselight.
The downside is, for that reason, Mistika and Baeslight will never have a huge user base, so they will always need to be very expensive.

I would pay $1000 for the ability to map my panel any way I want. No problem. Happy to to do it.

I have an Xkeys with words and symbols. If shortcuts are changed, I just reprogram them in ControllerMate.
I could not possibly remember all the shortcuts of all the applications we use on a regular basis.
My Xkeys increase speed by at least 25% and looks very nice and clean. Not bad for $200. It’s a great addition to a Wave or Element.

As for external power just for the cards, anyone have a good solution?

February 1, 2014 at 10:08 pm in reply to: Has anyone been able to use high res sources (4K 5K 6K) with new noise reduction without GPU RAM warning? How much GPU RAM does your Titan have? I could be mistaken but I thought it came in several RAM amount variants.
Also:
– Are you able to use a Titan safely in a Mac Pro?
– Are you able to set search area up to 2 frames (over default 1)
– Have you tried Dragon footage? (6K)
– Does the Titan work well with any RAM-instensive OFX plugins you might have tried?
Thanks for your replies! Much appreciated!
