  • [Frank Thomas] “Hey, aren’t you the father of the Brady Bunch? LOL.”

No, if I was that Robert Reed, I am afraid I’d be the father of no one.

    🙂

    A father of three,

  • I downloaded the demo and found it to be buggy like nearly all the Digital Anarchy applications. I don’t use it now.

  • No there is no way to save a Premiere Pro project file from a newer version back to an older version.

If you have no effects and just straight cuts, you may be able to get it to work using an EDL.

[Michael Colin] “Not asking for a step-by-step, just a pointer in the right direction for further self-learning. Thanks!”

The answer is in fractal noise and Chris Zwar has a great tutorial on using it here at the COW. He explains the ins and outs of using it but smoke is not one of his examples. But since you said you are not looking for a step by step hand-hold, this article will teach you what you need to know.

Try the search engine, using “rates” and “pricing” as Walter suggests.

    Don’t be lazy.

  • Another great book is Angie Taylor’s Creative After Effects 7 book. And even though it says it is for v7, there is little in it that isn’t applicable to any version as it isn’t a rewrite of the user manual. She doesn’t just run through the switches and gears like most books do but she shows you the hows and the whys, along with the strategies behind them. And Darby is right, Mark’s book is also remarkable.

  • [Peter Wiggins] “Everybody was talking about it at NAB”

I spent quite a deal of time at the show and talked with many of my friends and booth personnel about many of the things there this year. I didn’t hear a word about this.

So either “everybody” doesn’t include all the people I know, or somebody is exaggerating.

Like Sean, I find it overpriced for something that is not clear as to what it does or doesn’t do. Reading the website, I feel as if the thing was designed by a car salesman.

  • The Windows AVI is the culprit that is causing you the artifacting onscreen.

If you render out to Quicktime’s own Animation codec, it is lossless codec and will create a file that has far fewer artifacts. This happens as it is not interpolating the resulting final pixels by trying to combine pixels together, which is what lossy codecs do. A lossless codec creates a 1-to-1 file that captures all the pixels.

[Rob Bateman] “here is so much around for the static print and web industry, surely there must be something around?”

It can be found by searching the word inspiration in the search engine.
