April 19, 2011 at 11:39 pm in reply to: RED Rocket driver 1.4.7 all good?

    Hello Gabriele,

Thanks for letting us know. Can you downgrade the REDrocket driver? Or is the update also changing the firmware of the REDrocket and thus making it incompatible with the old driver?

    Cheers,
    Robert

April 19, 2011 at 1:01 pm in reply to: RED Rocket driver 1.4.7 all good?

    Hello Christopher,

If possible I want to use the new build of REDcine-x (449) which needs REDrocket driver 1.4.7 to use the REDrocket.

But I also want to continue using Resolve 7.1.1, so hoping someone has jumped before me… anyone?

    Cheers,

February 13, 2011 at 10:43 pm in reply to: Setting up a DaVinci

    Hello Peter,

I can say anything about the 8800 GT, but for me the cheapest option was a second hand GT120 (1 slot wide) and a modified PC to Mac GTX 285 (2 slot wide). If your really lucky look for someone that’ll help/teach you to modify PC GTX 285 cards, I now have 5 modified cards wishing I had the money for a cubix.

Older/other Decklink cards work as video out, but are not recommended and maybe limited for capture etc. Multibridge Pro 2 is working perfectly for me so far.

    Cheers,
    Robert

February 10, 2011 at 12:19 am in reply to: Poll : ICA Online classes

Having seen only the first two classes of Warren’s FXphd Da Vinci 2k class, plus Warren at NAB2010 and Melbourne Resolve launch. I’d happily pay for Resolve classes from Warren. Less as a pick on Kelly’s introduction classes and more for Warren’s personality as a colourist and workflow focus.

Warren any chance of you doing an FXphd DAV301 advanced level class? If not ICA online classes sounds good.

Blackmagic/Da Vinci may want to follow The Foundry’s lead of the high quality free tutorials that they release on Nuke and other products. Not saying I’m not happy to pay for good training 😉

February 9, 2011 at 11:54 pm in reply to: RED in QT wrapper

    Hello Tim,

Okay, I’m trying to work this out… What we are we both talking about? So talking out loud here.

If you do not have the R3D file that goes with the proxies (_F.mov, _H.mov, _M.mov, _P.mov) you’ll never be able to load that footage into anything.

Yes those files are wrappers, at set resolutions (_F.mov for full, _H.mov for half etc) and set debayer (see System Preferences REDcode for the os level debayer – how does windows do this?).

Now in colo(u)r 1.5.3 I can not load the mov proxy, only load the R3D file in the same folder… but…

So at a guess, could this be a FCP transcodes of the R3D’s? If the mov file opens without an R3D, then we know it is not a R3D (with or without an auto generated proxy). This does not mean its not using REDcode tho.

Now the final option I can see is that you (or someone) created FCP native RED QuickTime media (which is a 12-bit, 4:4:4 RGB 2K MOV REDcode thing??? I don’t know, never done it this way. Always conformed in or for Scratch, Lustre and now learning Resolve from standard ProRes offline). Reason why I think it is this native RED Mov is that Colo(u)r will still give you all the normal R3D ISO control etc – see link:

    https://documentation.apple.com/en/color/usermanual/index.html#chapter=9%26section=11%26tasks=true

So the question I guess is… Does Resolve speak with native RED QuickTime media?

I’ll do a test… “Log and Transfer” Preferences choose Native, transcode… Resolve… No, does not see the media, sorry. Stay with Colo(u)r or render out a ProRes?

I hope this helps and in no way do I mean to say “sux eggs” because I equally could be wrong? It’s all about the learning.

    Cheers,
    Robert

What reason would you want to use the RED proxy mov’s? Lower res because of the wavelet compression? If so consider using Resolves proxies, either realtime proxies (OFP) or the proxy manager for pre rendered proxies.

So far I’ve not needed to use either so can’t speak about the practicalities of R3D’s and proxies.

February 9, 2011 at 12:52 am in reply to: 8-core Mac Pro crash

While waiting for my GPU’s I tried a ATI only setup and when I clicking on a R3D in the browser Resolve would crash. I knew not to do this, but I have issues with waiting 🙁

Also I found that once I had the GT120 and REDrocket I could load and work with RED footage, but once I added a blur to anything it would turn the image into digital colour craziness. Remove the blur and all was good.

Mac modded Overclocked GTX285 is working perfectly in the system! I have another four GTX285’s, now all I need is the money/reason for a PCI expander.

    Robert

December 18, 2010 at 6:18 am in reply to: Using a cheaper Decklink card

The upshot of all this is: it may or may not work but more importantly it will not be tested for compatibility. I personal think their reasons are very fair “LTC and deck control to be accurate within Resolve” etc.

At my work we just got two copies of Resolve with two new Decklink HD Extreme 3d+ cards (and a couple Decklink HD Extreme 3) but we also have a number of other Decklink cards.

I’ll do a test with the Intensity and Multibridge Pro when I can (maybe in the new year) and I’ll post the outcome.

    Cheers,
    Robert

August 25, 2010 at 4:52 am in reply to: is the Ultrascope qualified with Windows 7 ?

I’ll answer my own questions to stop people thinking there is a delay because of my question.

Spoke with Grant Petty and couple of uses last night at the Melbourne DaVinci Mac launch and they confirmed that the Ultrascopes have no delay.

Also thanks to Grant BMD and Future Reality for the great night.

    Cheers,
    Robert
