[Michael Phillips] “In Media Composer you will have to choose – Avid DS and perhaps Smoke, Resolve or other apps have a native 1080p/59.94 format.”

I’m just a notalentwannabe but I would try a Resolve to AVID to Resolve offline/online round trip if it were me.

    Y’all be cool,

June 29, 2013 at 4:29 pm in reply to: Symphony Using ARRI MXF Plugin For P2/AVC-Intra

[Robert Ober] “Will try to find how to select an AMA plugin manually and try that. I can AMA link files but not Volume as before.”

So of course there is a dropdown UI when linking to AMA FILES to choose the plugin (never needed to do that) but not linking to AMA VOLUME. Did find a Digital Rebellion article that does mention the ARRI MXF taking precedence for some reason.

Would like to resolve this for VOLUME mounting if anybody knows a way.

    Thanks,

[Michael Phillips] “Are you selecting the Arri plug-in first, then trying to open P2/AVC? Be sure to select AMA plug-in manually. v7 brings an autodetect feature with it that is really hit and miss, so remember to select plug-in first.”

Nope not selecting the ARRI plugin. Don’t think I know how. Never had to select a plugin in earlier revisions.

June 28, 2013 at 2:58 pm in reply to: 6.5.3 Okay?

[Michael Phillips] “Don’t think you can have them co=exist, but you need the latest 6.x.x and 6.5.x to have project/bin compatibility with v7. There is a 30 day trial for v7.”

    Cool,

I think I will put the 7 trial on my notebook and see if I can move a project to 6.5.3.

    Thanks,

June 28, 2013 at 2:51 pm in reply to: 6.5.3 Okay?

[Neil Goodman] “best build of 66.5 yet imo.. would definitely recommend if your on 6.5

stable and snappy, even on blackmagic hardware. Almost scared too try 7 now on account i only just got the 6.5 ive wanted for months.”

    Thanks for that.

I am on 6.5.2.1 but had an odd occurrence with my P2 AVC-Intra100 media. From an existing Contents folder on a hard drive it did not want to AMA link or import. I was able to finally link to the video but then had to link to the audio separately. Interestingly, when I linked to the audio it populated the video clips with the audio as if I had brought them in together.

So anyway, I am curious to see if 6.5.3 behaves correctly with my P2 media. It has worked correctly in the past.

Hope you have a fun weekend,

Disclaimer: I offer backup to LTO as a service.

Yes, always backup masters to tape.

I don’t know about 4.0.5 being the most reliable, I don’t go back that far but if a real Pro says its good and it does what you need then no reason to change.

Are you sending the final out to Resolve or something? What is your deliverable?

I have several different external drives but my CalDigit RAID 1 is well built and of course RAID 1 is two drives with the same data so it has redundancy. Lots of folks like g-raid drives but I have had good service from the CalDigit and good tech support.

ISIS is Avid’s shared storage system for allowing multiple editors to access the same data.

    Hope your project goes well,
    Robert:)

You’ll not remedy those problems without specialist tools. Isotope ex is a high end tool for fixing tricky problems and even then I sometimes find it can’t.

    Perhaps you use Isotope RX?

Anyway, Audition CS6 (CC is rental software of which I am not a fan) has the Audio Healing Paintbrush which is like the tool in RX and other high end products that allows one to eliminate a particular noise or sound by encircling it or painting it out. Not sure why Adobe has not make more of this. I am not aware of anything else near Audition’s price point that has this capability.

I am not connected to Adobe in any way other than a user of several of the products.

    Take it EZ,

    Yes, What Peter said.

Also, what I first do is sample the noise in a noise reduction plugin if possible to element most or all of the background noise. This of course in an audio program such as Audition. Not sure there is such a plugin in MC or Symphony.

Audacity is free and I believe it has such a plugin.

As far as EQ goes, it depends on the noise characteristics but often you can make progress by rolling off the low frequencies. I did that with some windy beach footage a friend of mine shot.

    Hope that helps,

If you have another machine you might want to put Squeeze or something that supports DNXHD on it and use that computer for transcoding.

Also, Shane gives good advice about backing up the masters. What most folks don’t realize is that they should backup to LTO tape as drives are MUCH less reliable and need to be spun up every month or so to keep them from failing sooner.

I would not want to rely on something as old as 4.05, but maybe the Pros can weigh in on that.

    Hope your project goes well,
