  • You probably know this but any recent MBP will have either AMD or Nvidea graphics.

[Sascha Engel] “Could you send me the link of the F55 footage you found on the Net.”

    Hey,

Not sure where I found the other stuff I have, but at:

    https://www.xdcam-user.com/2013/04/sony-pmw-f55-raw-samples-for-download/

they have 4K Sony RAW. Interestingly I could not find a way in Catalyst Browse or Resolve to downres that to 2k RAW.

I may try in MC 8.2.

Anybody know a way to downres to 2k and keep it RAW?

Did the issue start with 11? In other words, it was better in 10?

Maybe a OS X update started the issue?

Did we mention you want to probably have the latest Nvidea Web Driver and Cuda. Also some BMD Desktop versions work better than other depending on your particular setup. Assuming you have BMD Desktop.

    Hang in there,

What Peter said of course, but let me also remind folks that Quadros are weak on Cuda cores. The GTX gaming cards work better for Resolve.

    Quadros are for 3D graphics/VFX.

Will they send you a file for testing the workflow? Might be a good idea.

Should work in 11.x, not sure about 10. But I have only played with F55 RAW that I found on the net.

There are options in the Project Settings for RAW types and LUTS.

You got enough RAM and GPU for coloring 2k? Might want to check the Resolve config guide.

    Good Luck,

  • Y’all the same folks that posted about issues with Canon files over on the Avid website?

If so, read my reply over there. Basically I suggest starting in Resolve.

    Good Luck,

November 19, 2014 at 12:09 am in reply to: Best resources (free or paid) for learning Avid…

I think he is not looking for how to edit but how to use MC. Kevin P’s free ones are really good. Also Class On Demand has a series for FCP(not X) editors that is pretty good. I have a subscription to that.

Also, as you may have seen, Kevin P. is doing new ones for the upcoming 4K Avid release. The official Avid books are pretty good but since the 4K update is due by the end of the year, they will be out of date soon.

Welcome to the world of Avid. A bit frustrating for FCP editors at first but if one learns the keyboard shortcuts and makes their own, one can be fast. And for me the forced organization of media is a plus.

    Hope that helps,
    Robert

October 31, 2014 at 11:26 pm in reply to: AMC7 – GPU usage

[Michael Phillips] “My only guess is that should there be a brand new spanking engine with GPU performance that it would have been mentioned (and highlighted) with all the 2k/4K news at IBC. The fact that the workflows were more centered on the new DNxHR kind of tells me, there is no new engine.”

You make some good points but with all those pixels to move I would suspect a new engine is needed.

    Take care,

[Nat Jencks] “I’m on the most recent build of v11 and seeing an issue where spacial NR is causing pixelation / blocking. “

Only on playback or did you actually output a file and it has the issue?

    Curious,

Unfortunately AMC does not use the graphics card as much as it could/should, especially when comparing it to Adobe Premiere Pro CC. There are some effects that leverage GPU processing, but that’s about it.

    Michael

But Master Michael, don’t you expect much more GPU usage when we get 4k support? Surely the playback engine will finally be the 64bit GPU goodness we have been waiting for.

OP, Look at the new 980, but you should wait for the 6gb one.

    Y’all be cool,
    Robert
