Grading 2K from SONY F65
Posted by Sascha Engel on November 17, 2014 at 6:30 pmhi Everybody,
I have a rather urgent question- job is on Thursday.
I run DaVinci lite 10. The client wants to deliver an AAF from AVID, with footage shot on SONY F65 in 2K RAW.
Will DaVinci Lite handle these files, can it grade in 2K?
Workflow as usual? Ad footage to media pool and import AAF as new timeline, link to footage in Pool?
Anything specific with th F65 in terms of the RAW settings in resolve to take into account!?Thanx a lot.
Greetings,

November 19, 2014 at 12:54 amWill they send you a file for testing the workflow? Might be a good idea.
Should work in 11.x, not sure about 10. But I have only played with F55 RAW that I found on the net.
There are options in the Project Settings for RAW types and LUTS.
You got enough RAM and GPU for coloring 2k? Might want to check the Resolve config guide.
Good Luck,

November 19, 2014 at 5:22 amHi Robert,
Yes, they will send me some material during the shooting, but that will be only 2 days before the grading.
Are there maybe online somewhere test files you could download?
Apparently, it is now the SONY F55 they are shooting with.
Unfortunately, I cannot upgrade to Mavericks right now, due to a documentary feature I’m working on right now,
Which means that Resolve 11 is not an option unfortunately.
I’m running my machine with 32GB RAM and a 2GB Nvidea 680 Card.
Will that be enough horsepower?Greetings,

November 19, 2014 at 8:33 pmYou don’t need Mavericks for Resolve 11. You need a minimum of OSX 10.8.5 Mountain Lion.

November 19, 2014 at 9:35 pmAre you sure? I heard that you need Mavericks to run it good.
Would it work also with 10.8.4?Sascha Engel

November 19, 2014 at 10:36 pmNo, 10.8.4 will not work. It has to be 10.8.5. And I’m not aware of any issues running V11 in Mountain Lion.

Hey,
Not sure where I found the other stuff I have, but at:
https://www.xdcam-user.com/2013/04/sony-pmw-f55-raw-samples-for-download/
they have 4K Sony RAW. Interestingly I could not find a way in Catalyst Browse or Resolve to downres that to 2k RAW.
I may try in MC 8.2.
Anybody know a way to downres to 2k and keep it RAW?
