David – thank you for your reply.
I can assure you there is no sinister reason why one is not updated. The person who looked after all this previously was clued up with Macs and the FCP software, whereas I have literally just taken over when he left the company. Before a couple of weeks ago, I have never used a Mac before so in all honesty have no idea why one is running one version and the other different. The Macbook pro resides in Italy (we’re a ski company) during the winter where it is used to capture and log the footage taken out there and then we use the static machine back in the UK to edit.
Anyway, after spending almost all day searching forums for an answer, I stumbled across the problem which as in fact down to where the files had been stored. I am still getting my head round using a new machine and software so I suppose schoolboy errors are expected! It turns out, the files I’d captured had actually been saved locally on the Macbook Pro internal hard-drive and not on to the external hard-drive I have been using between the two. I moved the files about and reconnected them on the static machine and voila, everything worked – only took me about 5 hours to figure out!
