Correct, FCP does not edit in AVC-I format. When importing through the Log & Transfer tool, it can be compressed to ProRes or ProRes HQ. But it needs the AVC-I codec in the first place just to import.

The purpose is to have the ability to put your Mac on 2 networks, if needed. For example, Apple Xsan requires a dedicated metadata network so this occupies 1 port. The other port would be for your standard internet connection.

I completely agree. The Batch Export is definitely missing chapter markers, dvd markers, etc. We have requested Apple correct this several times now.

You’re better off archiving the original P2 media on DVDs, LTO3 or 4 tapes or even keep them on the hard drives.
Dumping to tape will lose your original TC and make you re-compress again on capture.

We backup everything, FCP Capture folders, FCP Project and the original P2 media to a Scalar 24 LTO3 tape library. Works very well.

Just a little more info…
This seems to only be an issue for 720p60 and 1080p23.98 sequences. 480i and 1080i are not affected. I did not test any other formats.
