Quicktime 10 is a strange beast, I had made a set of 1080P 23.98 Pro-resHQ files which were film scans of mine, edited. When I played them in QT-10 they would “zoom” in and out on the video about 10% repeatedly while playing. They played fine in FCP and QT7….

I think EDL export from Final Cut is much less robust than from Avid…

Yeah I know should have added to that… I suppose separate the media by reel names.. Charge extra for fixing a F’ed up EDL? is the project from Final Cut or Avid? get the editor to give you a working EDL like they should have in the first place… I know none of this is helpful… V8.0 has better editorial tools… Change the TC in the quicktime so it works, edit it QuickTime Pro(V7) player for .mov or fix it in MC for Avid…

In general I think it is best to avoid the 24:00:00:00 timecode issue by setting timecode at 1:00:00:00 for each reel. That way each named reel has a TC reference and you will never have the TC rollover issue. For example I have a feature right now with 97 flats of film even with fractional timecode (i.e. 30min TC breaks) there is no way to make a 24hr timecode work. Each film flat is punched at the first A frame and given a 1:00:00:00 TC and the edl works fine.

You need a display LUT which emulates the film recording process for the stock, recorder and lab you are using. Then make a set of DPX frames and a audio file. 35mm Film recording is necessarily expensive because of the film stock costs.

Weird, maybe it is a MB driver issue or a GPU driver issue?

The machine I had ultrascope in first had an older Nvidia card and the waveforms all came up looking like triangles, i.e. not enough GPU performance. What GPU do you have in your Ultrascope machine?

I don’t want to fix allot of bad footage I am a snob, so be it. I want to make films (even ones I shoot) look as they are intended, uuuggghhhh, film and film timing is still how it should be done, if you f*ck up it is on you, not we will fix it in some post chain for nothing and blah blah…
I can weld too, working for nothing fixing bad work is no way forward.
