April 29, 2011 at 1:58 amYou need a display LUT which emulates the film recording process for the stock, recorder and lab you are using. Then make a set of DPX frames and a audio file. 35mm Film recording is necessarily expensive because of the film stock costs.

April 29, 2011 at 2:03 amHow are you able to export XML from Resolve now ? There is no XML export in Resolve v7…it is a new feature in v8.
Your question of lab printing is a loaded one and involves 3DLUT, calibration with the lab…etc. You also need to find out who is going to do the film recording. The film processing lab themselves or another post facility that owns a film recorder.
Which is the best lab for printing and not expensive ? I don’t think anyone will be able to advise you here. You need to find out which are the film processing lab in your area and what kind of charges they will offer you.

You could also try Digital Film Lab in Copenhagen, they have two Resolves, two Revivals, their own film lab and an Arri Laser.
Best Regards,

May 6, 2011 at 8:56 amThere are two CInevators in Mumbai, India. They churn out hundreds if not thousands of film prints every year. And the films there are really long – even three hours sometimes.
They can give you a film print out from DPX exports out of your Resolve. You need to send them a sample of your DPX, preferably with a frame or two of Marcie and some wedges included. They can make a test output to match your DPX files.
What’s important for them or whoever is printing your output to film, is what LUTs if any used whilst grading. It’s important that they see the picture exactly as it appears on your monitor. If that tallies, you can be assured that the print will match correctly.
If you need a 35mm negative on intermediate stock (which is seriously expensive) then there are numerous, maybe two dozen or so Arrilaser recorders in various parts of India.
If you’re interested, I can pass on their contact details to you and you can take it from there.
