I think DNxHD 444 is a new enough format that it is probably not supported yet in Resolve.

You have to install the enabler kext files for the GTX-285 before you install the card if I remember correctly. I assume it boots with the GT-120 alone? OSX does not want to let the GTX card run on the Gen-1 Mac-Pro because it is a PCIe V2.0 card and that machine has older (Bottleneck) V1.0 slots.

The GT-120 is not fast enough of a GPU for Ultrascope I would think a GTX-285 or ATI 5770 or similar would be required.

They look really nice and I like the price…. Hopefully we will see Resolve support soon. It did take a while for the Avid MC-Color to be supported by BMD did it eventually.

How big is the screen? I would think that Grading on a Cinema size screen (as you have said) would be trying after a long session.
I think that is why most DI theaters are setup with smaller screens for projection.

It is a 3-DLP Xenon lit DCI compliant projector, I can’t think of any reason why this is not top end gear for grading. The bulbs are expensive……

I think the current Mac-Pro line is pretty old and dusty and nobody knows if and when Apple will release a new high end desktop machine. You could build a P6T7 Asus based machine that would dual boot (it has the ability to load multiple bios iterations) and that runs very well as a Mac. Email me and I can send you the files to set that up.

The way I have the Hack setup is that there is a special BIOS mod and then a small USB stick drive that loads the basic OS Kext files and the Plist file for video and then boots a 10.6.8 partition on a drive which is a “stock” OSX build. Setting the machine up initially is a technical task.
Running a Hackintosh allows you to use PC GPU cards without flashing them for Mac OS. You can get a GTX-580 flashed to run in a Mac-Pro from Macvideocards.com I believe.

The Atto SAS card and the SAS Expander alone are about $2K the three GTX-480’s will run you about $1.5K The MoBo and CPU Plus RAM are about $1.5K Drives are about $1.5k. The 1200W Power Supply was about $400.
High end PC hardware is as expensive as high end MAc hardware I built this instead of a Mac-Pro with a Cubix for performance not necessarily for cost.

You can run a GTX-285 on a 1,1 Mac Pro but it will not utilize all of the GPUs performance due to bus limitations. There is a patch Kext file which allows the GTX to run on the older machine.
The GT-120 is a low performance card I think that the 8800 is higher performance. You should take a look at the configuration guide on BMD’s site for the Mac-Pro.
