  • There are new drivers from nVidia that enable all of their cards on the Mac including the GTX-590. However I think there may be a power issue with the Mac-Pro and the power hungry 590 you may need to add an external power supply.

I think you need a better GPU for the G5.

Unfortunately I don’t think there is any way to do this, and I would like to be able to rearrange the layout but have not found a way to do it.

  • Second partition or second drive to boot from, chamelion and a 10.7 build with a modified dsdt file and a com.plist file that describes the video card setup. Plus the new nVidia drivers that support the GTX590 on OSX. Basic hackintosh stuff. Then you could run NTFS on the OSX partition to beable to read and write NTFS disks and MacDrive on the Win7 system to read and write HFS+ disks.

Although with the Windows version of Resolve being able to write Pro-Res I think that the need for an OSX system is largely diminished.

  • There are people out there running Resolve on Z800 workstations that dual boot OSX Lion and Win 7 and now that the GTX590 runs on both platforms you could save allot over buying the Cubix and just get the workstation with that GPU.

What is the rest of the machine? Is there something running in the background?

  • The other issue is that the mac-Pro 2,1 is PCIe V1.0 slots with limited bandwidth. I don’t know if the Cubix expander card will even work on that machine at all. I ran a GTX-285 card with a GT120 on a “original” Mac-Pro 8-core 3ghz machine and I had to load a special kext file to bypass the OS’s reluctance to use the V1.0 slot for a V2.0 card.

  • I do not see where there would be any problem with that card, it is just for the GUI in Resolve and it is a fairly fast Mac video card.

I think you need to have a separate PC for Ultrascope because there will be GPU resource conflicts between the two apps.
