Solution: When making the AAF in Media Composer 8 I noticed it was making new MXF media even though I had all settings set to link to existing media. I copied this media into a new media folder for media composer 6 then imported the AAF and the audio works now.

I think I answered my own question. Under the Encore menu choose Preferences. From there choose preview and make sure TV Mode is set to 16:9. Not sure how this got set to 4:3 on mine to begin with because I’ve never had this issue until now.

I can’t help you with blu-ray encodes. I have the same problem. I was just referring to overall encodes. Even my Episode DVD encodes have to be transcoded again in Encore. But Compressor does not. I haven’t figured it out for Blu-ray yet either.

Hi Danny. Thanks for the response. The file is neither anamorphic or letterboxed 4:3. It is PAL 720×576 letterboxed with a 16:9 video. I’ve already encoded the original which was a DVCPro HD file. When I bring it into Encore, Encore is adding a slight pillar box on the sides of the frame making the entire 16:9 video be surrounded in black.

I can’t help you with this but it’s a question I’ve had for a while now too and I’m interested in hearing other responses. My compressor encodes work with Encore fine with no additional transcoding needed but Episode encodes always have to be transcoded. Why?
