Check out Nuendo. A lot more bang or the buck. And when I was doing testing a year or 2 ago I found it read FCP OMFs better than Logic. Go figure. And use whatever vid and aud hardware you want. One of my favorite apps ever as you can map the keyboard however you want and the editing just makes so much sense you’ll become annoyed with other apps.

Have you tried an uninstall/re-install of your plugins? I you get the duplicate error then for some reason it’s looking at 2 different folders and finding the same thing. Plugins have gotten weird over the last few years because it’s not always obvious where they are and how the program finds them.

September 5, 2011 at 11:26 pm in reply to: FCS 3 is back on sale through Apple – via telesales only[Mark Morache] “Perhaps it’s taken this long for them to see their market share start to drop and keep dropping as busineses are fleeing to Avid and Adobe, and they’re trying to stop the bleeding.”
I really doubt they are going to take a hit financially but their reputation has taken a hit deservedly and so maybe there is some concern about that.

FCP 7 was a very minor upgrade. The best thing really was the speed change setting had a ripple or not option. Other the that you really had to look to find what they added. I’d invest towards something else if I were you.

In the project window you can drag a clip over a new sequence button at the bottom of the project window and it will create a sequence based on the clips settings. Just like After Effects.

I put Lion on my MBP as Snow Leopard was having issues and I didn’t want to bother with a re-install. Although my stability issues did improve , I’d have to agree with a lot of that link you posted where things that were really nice are not so nice anymore. Mail is worse, they got rid of color coding in Finder, and auto fill is IMO much worse than to was. Other than the things I don’t like it seems about the same. I have no idea really of what was changed “under the hood”. At this point I think I’ll stick with 10.6.8 on my big system for as long as possible.

Sapphire has a freeze frame effect that will hold frames at whatever interval you want. They also used here an effect of dissolving from frame to frame. You could maybe in AE speed up a clip by say 500% and then render it or pre-comp it and then slow it back down using frame blend. Might work.

The NY Times had an interesting piece on his patents. I didn’t realize he was so much of a designer.

[Keith Moreau] “1) Provide the option to create preview files in the background ala FCPX or AE. When the CPU / GPU is needed for editing, all background rendering stops.
2) Improve granularity of what is rendered, for example clips, GPU vs CPU, video or audio tracks, ala FCP. Keep better track of what is rendered via what isn’t rendered at the sub clip level.
3) Provide a choice of using the rendered preview files or not while editing. Don’t lose track of the rendered files if you turn that option back on
4) Make “Use Preview files” (of your selection) for exporting appreciably faster without re-rendering or whatever else that seems to take a lot of time when exporting
“I’d basically agree to that. I think it comes down to – like I said in a suggestion to Adobe – making sure that the time invested in rendering while editing is not wasted by having to render it again during export as has been established in numerous other platforms. If it’s rendered then it should be rendered.
