  • Thanks everyone very much for your help. It is greatly appreciated. I have a file that works now. -Robert

  • Hello John,

The quick time I was sent did not play on my timeline. My colleague wrote: “I think I am choosing a wrong property somewhere, there are just so many options to edit in the render process.”

Can you recommend the correct properties for a file from After Effects that is meant for Vegas?

Without muddying up the water too much, would I be wise to purchase CineForm? My camera records AVCHD (Panasonic AF100).

    Thank you,
    Robert

  • Yes, it is one big clip.

Well I just now figured it out. Took me lots of trying, mainly because you have to get into DOS which I have not done in a long while. I got help from JVC who makes my camera (GY HD 100U) as well as sells a Firestore made by Focus Enhancements. JVC calls theirs the DR-HDD100.

Here’s the help verbatim from JVC:

Due to FAT32 limitation, recordings made in the DR-HD100 (Optional external HDD) are
limited to 2GB file size. Approximately in recording minutes, DV is 9 minutes, 720p is 13
minutes, and 1080i is 9 minutes. To combine the clips into one file and eliminate the loss of
audio at the end of the clips follow the procedure below.
    Solution:
Follow the procedure listed below to combine DR-HD100 HDV recording clips into one
    complete clip.
    Command example:
    “copy /b 001.m2t+002.m2t v:\CompleteClip.m2t”
    Detailed Steps:
The following assumes drive “V” is the destination video work drive, and the Firestore (DRHD100)
is drive “F”. Also the destination file will be named, “cam1.m2t”. Type the command,
without the quotes, so “command” is simply typed as command.
Important Note: The destination drive (V:) must be a non-FAT32 file format, such as NTFS

    1) Mount the Firestore to a Windows 2000/XP computer. Firestore normally mounts as drive “F”. Rename the folder with the video files to “fs” (just for simplicity).
    2) Rename the video files to 001.m2t, 002.m2t, 003.m2t, 004.m2t, 005.m2t, 006.m2t and 007.m2t. This assures that they stay in order (just for simplicity).
    3) Close the window and then click Start, Run and type “command” and press enter.
    4) Next type “f:” and press enter. You should now be at the root directory of the Firestore drive.
    5) Next type “cd fs” and press enter. You should now be at the “f:\fs” folder.
    6) Next type “copy /b 001.m2t+002.m2t+003.m2t+004.m2t+005.m2t+006.m2t+007.m2t
v:\capture\cam1.m2t” and press enter. Be absolutely sure to include /b which is for
    binary.
    7. Import cam1.m2t into your NLE

I upgraded the firmware on my JVC GY-HD110U and all went well with the upgrade. I ran a 45 minute continuous roll into the FS4 at 720 30P and on the Vegas timeline there was still an audio blip between each 13 minute clip. It seemed to be not as objectionable, but still there. I also tried using the device explorer to edit straight out of the FS4, but the same problem was there.
I’m presently running a DV test, although this does’t solve my problem in HDV. JVC is closed today, will call them tomorrow.

Just now did a firmware upgrade to my JVC HD110U camera. Will run a test this afternoon and post my findings. I suspect this was the problem, as the description of the upgrade addressed the problem I was having. -Robert

After checking the Focus Enhancements website, it may be that I need a firmware upgrade for my JVC HD100 camera to better work with the Focus Enhancements FS4 recorder. Checking on that.

    John,
I am copying the files from the Focus Enhancements to a folder on my hard drive, then opening Vegas, creating a new project and using the “import media” button to bring the files into the project.
Seems like I didn’t have this problem with earlier versions of Vegas.
I did not receive any stitching software from Focus Enhancements.
    Thanks, Robert

Thanks John and Scott. I appreciate the help very much.
I’ll definitely buy the computer before buying the camera.

Thanks very much for your reply.
Sorry I didn’t explain myself very well. My computer is a desktop, from system properties:

    Microsoft Windows XP
    Professional
    Version 2002
    Service Pack 3

    Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU
    6300 @ 1.86GHZ
1.86 GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM
    Physical Address Extension

Can/should this machine be upgraded or should I start over?
    I’m guessing start over.
    Thanks, Robert
