  • Question about adding After Effects files to Vegas 10 timeline

Posted by Robert Billings on July 5, 2011 at 8:44 pm

I’m editing with Vegas 10 and my project properties are HD 720 60p (1280 x 720, 59.940 fps). A colleague using After Effects will be sending me animation. Is there a recommended file type for Vegas?
    Thank you, Robert Billings

I usually use Quicktime Animation codec for transferring animations between programs. They work fine in Vegas and retain their alpha channel (if any) if you render them as 32-bit.

    Hello John,

The quick time I was sent did not play on my timeline. My colleague wrote: “I think I am choosing a wrong property somewhere, there are just so many options to edit in the render process.”

Can you recommend the correct properties for a file from After Effects that is meant for Vegas?

Without muddying up the water too much, would I be wise to purchase CineForm? My camera records AVCHD (Panasonic AF100).

    Thank you,
    Robert

When trying to import quicktime or add it to the timeline do you see black thumbnails?

If so it’s time to roll back your quicktime file, use an older version. I’m using 7.6.4 i believe.

try searching quicktime problems here on this forum, one of our board leaders, Mike Kujbida, has posted an old QT codec link.

As for cineform, it will work but the person with AE will need to buy it so THEY can render with it, you just need the free codec player from cineform to PLAY it.

Simply tell them to send you what John recommended (Quicktime using
the Animation Codec)….or the format that i always use which is
(Quicktime,PhotoJPEG). Its not a complex issue.
