    Martin,

I’d say learn the FCP keyboard layout, there’s just so much more functionality in it and by trying to avidise it much of the power is lost. Also, because the systems do things in subtely different ways, having keys mapped the same leads to unexpected results and confusion. In my experience of training people taking the avid keyboard map (and in some cases the avid keyboard itself) has significantly improved the speed of learning and familiarity with FCP.

[Kevin Monahan] “Are you unmounting (ejecting) them before shut down? “

I’m interested in what goes on here. If I unmount my FW drives they spin down but then when I shut the mac down it spins them up again as part of the shutdown, then they spin down once the computer’s off. Are you suggesting that I unmount them AND disconnect them?

[AJA Sales Department] “All of the outputs on the IoLA are always active, even in stand-alone mode. This is the case on all three Io models.”

does this include firewire? I’m wondering whether the IO could work as a convertor to feed AVID XPRESS pro (DV25) as well as FCP or do I need to look to convergent design for that??

Once you’ve striped some tc onto the tape you need to change the tc make setting back to regenerate. then all should be well.

    good luck,

try experimenting with a little motion blur in the motion tab – can yield impressive results.

It also depends on how your footage was digitized in the first place. I’ve found that I get far fewer problems (almost none) if I digitize on a clip by clip basis rather than digitizing huge chunks of footage at once. It may be too late for you but that’s my advice for the future. Keeps your project better organized too.

    Hi Maria,

double check your capture preset, make sure the anamorphic box is checked – you’ll probably need to create a duplicate if it needs changing.

Alternatively, put your bin into column view, select all clips and then in the anamorphic column right/ctrl click and select yes/no (not at my machine right now so I’m not 100% on whther it’s yes no or something else – but it will be pretty obvious).

Make sure your timeline’s set to anamorphic as well.

    Good luck,
    Rob

Great to hear the good news about 5.0 – I look forward to hearing more. Did you keep a copy of 4.5 running? I read somewhere that renaming the app means that the 5.0 installer doesn’t delete the old version. Which version of Tiger are you running?

    Hi Amund,

are you running 4.5 or 5.0?
I’ve got a cinewave too which is running beautifully with Tiger and 4.5 (should I have said that???). Haven’t been brave enough to try 5.0 yet though.

I remember last year that CW had the green line problem with DV timelines until 4.5 came out.

    Cheers,
    Rob
