    No problem, Russell.

I bet some drives are pickier about media than others, too, just to make it even more confusing. Next time you run into that error, though, try using the “best” speed in Toast.

I use an NEC combo drive (in a LaCie box) and it loves Sony media. And it’s dirt cheap where I am, in Canada, right now. I get them at Walmart for 50 cents CDN/disc. I find the Sony discs made in Taiwan are just as good quality as the ones made in Japan.

    Anyway, good luck!

Wow, you sound very angry over your mp3’s.

I can hear the difference in mp3 over aif files. Maybe sfx don’t matter as much, but music sure loses something (unless it’s britney spears or something, of course).

But, to be honest, I’d hate for Apple to make mp3’s an issue over many other possible things to work on.

Just get the mp3’s you need and do a batch export over a coffee break, if that’s easier than grabbing them off the original CD. Just an idea.

This happened to me once with flakey media. What brand discs are you using?

What worked for me (before going with Sony discs) was choosing “best” in the speed menu. Somehow that worked it out.

With the Sony (and Maxell, which I’ve tried also) media, though, I can choose any of the available burn speeds and everything is happy.

Same here, which is why I’m always skeptical when I read these kinds postings. You’d think with such a consistently spectacular failure rate, one would make mention of LaCie customer service. I mean, do people simply throw them in the trash, buy some more, then complain on message boards about it?

I’m not saying these postings in particular are suspect (and I’m certainly curious about what LaCie service has done in this case) but I have yet to see one of my own or a client’s LaCie bite the dust. And that includes my CD-R & DVD/CD combo burners from LaCie which keep on ticking.

Why not consult LaCie about these problems? Aren’t these drives under warranty?

I’ve yet to have a problem with LaCie, after 4 HD’s a 52x CD burner and 16x (think that’s what it is, it’s fast anyhow) DVD burner.

    Not. One. Single. Problem.

And that’s not counting edit suites I’ve worked where LaCie drives are common.

The last person I’d trust for comments on tech stuff are a) whiners, and b) people who’ve obviously never even used the product.

And if you believe there’s any brand of HD that won’t fail sometimes, you’re pretty darn gullible.
