We are working with MC 8.6.4 on Windows. We have multigroup with linked cameras. When we match frame the first time we get the multigroup and when we match frame again we get the iso camera/linked file that is part of the multigroup. Seems to work for us. I know this doesn’t solve your issue, just wamted to pass along the info.

  • File names do match. Files are in contents\clips folder, 1920×1080 .MXF files, H264 MPEG 4 AVC (part 10)

I should have thought about testing – I do have the luxury of testing linked groups as well as creating MC Lo-Rez and relinking as project editing will not begin until January. I am organizing now as DIT for the shoot.

    Thank you!

  • Yes, the camera proxies have the same LUT baked in – good point to use those rather than linking to HiRez, adding LUT and baking in when creating MC proxies! I tried playing linked HiRez and isn’t bad when I’m alone but won’t work well when this client is in the room, especially when I have a 3 cam multi-group.

Would the best plan be to link to camera proxies and if I have playback issues then create MC Lo-Rez for offline? Would I then be able to relink to originals per sequence for finals?

    Thanks Michael!

  • no idea then – probably a new switch or function somewhere .. unless it really is referencing a file that doesn’t exist.

    Ricky

  • Timeline hamburger menu and click on “Track Control panel” and this will open on timeline and you can see a “power button” to see if it is on or off.

    Ricky

  • if they are “greyed out” then you will need to turn on those tracks with the “power switch” in the timeline. Maybe this isn’t your issue but it sounds like one I had.

You can “Export” a graphic file – many choices: JPEG, PNG etc.

November 8, 2016 at 2:04 pm in reply to: Motion 4 and MC6

I am unfamiliar with Motion 4 and file exports.

On the Avid side of things:
Avid brings in files either ‘solid/fullscreen’ as a video clip or it brings in a Real time Matte which contains objects (static or animated) that are meant to be put on top of (keyed over) existing video. For example:

If a lower third super was created correctly in a third party app outside of Avid, then it would have an alpha to make it keyable over your video inside of Avid. You would import (usually inverting the alpha) into Avid as a Real Time Matte. This clip would be put on a video track above your existing video and would be “keyed” on top. If you imported this same file by ignoring the alpha, then when this clip is put on top of your existing video it would not key. Instead the lower third super would have black or white as the background and be a “solid” piece of video.

If this clip you are wanting to import from Motion is not meant to be keyed but is meant to be used as a video clip, fullscreen, then you could ignore the alpha on import probably be fine if all areas of the screen look as it was designed. If you have black or white areas in your fullscreen video where you did not expect then you would need to go back to Motion and fill those areas with something, creating a ‘solid, fullscreen’ clip and when exporting you would not include any alpha channels.

October 17, 2016 at 5:57 pm in reply to: Avid MC video levels

Thank you Shane and Job. The link will be helpful. I agree Shane but as I do this, the folks (my direct clients) at the Ad Agency, concentrate heavily on the levels of the digital deliveries (for computer/web) and they always say my blacks are washed out and sometimes they even say they are crushed. I seem to be fighting a losing battle and wondered if there is a workflow or some way others respond to this issue. I have tried to explain “broadcast” and a “standard” that exists and they don’t seem to ever have a problem with that – (probably they rely on Extreme Reach to reject any video with Audio/Video/Caption errors, be it levels or tech specs.)

My work around seems cumbersome as I tried several workflows from exporting 2 sets of masters, to using the broadcast master and adjusting levels in Sorenson or AME … then relying on players and OS’s and computer monitors on their end to be consistent. My best results have come from 2 different exports and not modifying the encoder settings.

Thank you both for your helpful input!

What are you trying to do when you get this error? File type, linking? Need more info please.
