Maybe check that audio monitoring is not turned off on source side? Check drop down menu to ensure the multi-group is looking at good audio source? I know these are very simple things to check but just trying to help.

Check to see if the “media” is actually media that was imported, consolidated or transcoded and not AMA linked only. You should be able to relink no matter what. Highlight all media clips in a bin and choose relink – when doing this you will be offered many choices. I would start with default settings but select your external drive. You may need to play with some of the options when trying to relink. You can relink Sequences as well.
Did Avid rescan the media drive as it was booting after you deleted databases?

Make sure the “Avid MediaFiles” Folder is on the root of the drive. You may need to go into the “MXF” sub-folders and delete the database files. Avid should rebuild and see the files without relinking. I would try this first.

When shooting anamorphic SD became available we chose not to use that option and complicate our workflow. That was in error as the 16×9 aspect ratio became standard we had to pillar box or enlarge and crop top/bottom to get full screen without distortion. When we started HD, we chose the 1280×720, why I can’t say but then along comes Frame Flex where we could have cut a simple interview with less quality loss by zooming in to a faux CU had we acquired full HD.
We shoot b-roll around the globe and re-use footage for years. While we currently have little use for 4K we acquire that at almost every opportunity to leave our options open in the future. While every project we do is not black and white and some have limited use, we have amazing opportunities available in post when we do not limit ourselves on the front end.
The workflow Michael described should make it an easy decision to stay with 4K. Live life without fear and regrets!

Look at audio under settings tab and see if Centered or L-R Alternating is checked. I believe this setting will have some bearing on your issue.

This can be done directly in Avid, BUT …
First, in my opinion, you’ll need to design backwards from the completed image as you have posted and make a decision on how you are going to get to that point. This would be helpful in deciding where this is done, using Photoshop, After Effects or Avid or in all 3 programs – prepping them in PS or AE and completing in Avid.
Pic 1 can be done by creating part or all of the elements in Photoshop and imported and placed in Avid – partial would be to create all except text in PS, import and use title tool for the text. Depends a lot on how you want the elements to appear over video. Do you want it to come in already complete or do you want to add text as points in time? Do you want them to fade or wipe or do you want them to animate?
This all is basically the same for Pic 2. You’ll be using Alpha Channels and or Matte Keys. Like there has been little response because there are so many ways to accomplish and it all goes back to how you want to get to the final images posted.

Thanks Michael! I was hoping that was the case. I know 720 59.94 and all the 23-24 fps projects (as well as others) don’t allow that. Life is good!

Avid 8.3 and Matrox did not play nicely together at first, it was a driver issue. I believe they have since resolved this. I don’t have the link available right now but you can look into Matrox forum(s) to find the topic and possible solution with driver download link.
