Don’t think Vegas has the tools needed to unclip the waveform.
Soundforge has the toolset needed. Also another fine audio editor for
this type of work is Audition. Given the choice I would go with Soundforge since it intergrates very well with Vegas.Since you have a trail version of Soundforge you could give that a try. Drop me an email at cooledit2003@yahoo.com and I will email you

Even with the proper tools it would take a very very long time to fix this. You will have to zoom into the waveform very tight and manually fix each cliped waveform. Are you sure you want to manually fix 2hrs worth of audio?
If you really do I will see if Vegas has the needed tools. I use Soundforge for this.
Beleive me it will take a very long time to fix this.

You have a lot of questions. I will try to field some of them.

There are pros and con’s to most things. The advantage to editing to intermediate codec is that it stands up to recompression better. The Con is that it takes time to create the intermediate files and of course MORE drive space. As Edward has already pointed out Vegas 7 can give your very good preview frame rates which is one reason why we use might use intermediate with Vegas 6. Do some testing and decide the best workflow and quality for yourself.

All of your monitors must be properly calibrated or they wont even be close. In addition, because of the differences in a LCD monitor and a video monitor they will never look exactly the same. Most pros rely very much for thier Video Monitor to tell them what things will look like broadcast. You can do a google search for monitor calibration for more info.

No. Best is Best. But good is pretty good.

This feature helps deinterlaces the clip when you have interlace flicker issues with interlaced video, such as with thin lines, and motion. It does not apply to a Progressive render since Progressive in and of itself deinterlaces the video for you.

None can give you stuttering motion, blend is smoother, interpolate may be sharper. The reason you like None is because it looks sharpest but beware of motion artifacts and even lip sync may appear off with a talking head.

Once again, is your TV calibated propely, or all your displays calibrated? I can take properly adjusted video and play it on a TV and make it look like whatever I want, faded, or lots of chroma, dark. The Key is calibration everwhere. Also, I cannot stress enough the use of your waveform and vectorscope to confirm what you think you see and if your levels are legal. Anything given to a outlet for broadcast must have legal level and your scopes are the only way to confirm that. Read your help file about your scopes.

Interlacing is for TV’s. Render Progressive for computer.

SMPTE bars should be fine, however why not just contact the station’s engineer and ask him the requirements per your deilvery medium. They may require tone be at a reduce level if your deliver on a format other than analog.

If you will be laying your project back to DV tape you could use the “print to tape” function which will create bars and tone for you.
If you own a audio app such as Audition it can generate tones for you.

Thanks to the author.If you find that your slow motion exhibits flicker, you can enabling the Video Bus track (in the View menu), adding a Motion Blur envelope, and setting it to somewhere between 2-4. You can also try right-clicking on the event, select Properties, and click on reduce interlace flicker. Don

I downloaded your clip (very cool).
When I play it back on my external video monitor it looks great.
When I adjust frame with either track motion or pan/crop the movement
gets a bit strobish. Just out of curiousity, why are you try to adjust the
frame? It looks great straight up.I played around with it for a few minutes. Your field order is best set to lower. I tried a Manual reduce flicker on your clip, looked pretty cool, kinda like the star trek warp effect.
I will play more with it later.
How about taking this to my personal email, we are taking up space on the forum and no one else has chimed in.
I know I’ve asked for a lot of info, thanks for your patience, but I have a few more questions.
The clip that you posted, was that an export from the vegas timeline or was that one of your source clips. If it was a source clip it had been edited.

Are you sure that you actually moved it. In some cases you have to first click on the image in the track motion window before up arrow click.
Let’s try this. We will deinterlace your project. If this works you do have a interlacing field order problem, if it does not work something else is going on.
Open your project properties, video tab, select “none progressive scan”
in the field order box. Then render out a short section progressive. To do that select custom button after you have selected your type of render and template. In the video tab you will see a dropdown box with the option to render progressive, select progressive. Now render and see if that gets rid of your breakup. A test DVD would be a good way of viewing unless you have an External Video Monitor.[groucho] “I have rendered them from WMM as DV-avis,”
Just for grins, click on your explorer tab in vegas and right click on one of your WMM-avis and select properties. Can you copy and paste that info into a post. I would like to see the specs on one of those clips.

Progressive will look better sharper on your computer display since it is a progressive scan device. However, your progressive scan render will not look as good on a TV since it is interlaced. If your showing it on a TV and your in The US I would render interlaced. Many of us have a NTSC Video Monitor in addition to our computer monitor via a DV Firewire Converter. This allows us to select external monitor and see the project played on a video monitor.
Things always look much different on your NTSC Monitor than they do on your computer monitor. Some of the new TV’s can be switched to progressive but most TV’s out there are interlaced. However, many DVD players can play a progressive scanned DVD. Be aware if you go the progressive route that you must set DVD Architect Properties to progressive as well.If I were you at this stage I would create a progressive version and a interlaced version. Play them back in your DVD Player and go with the one that looks best to you.

Your description helps a lot.
I have seen this problem before on some of my projects.
Welcome to the NTSC Interlaced Video World.
Whenever you repoisition your video frame using Track Motion or
Pan/Crop it is a roll of the dice as to wither you land on an
odd or even field. Land on the wrong one and you can get breakup or
a soft image. All that is needed is to open your project back up and
go into track motion, move the image up one field by pushing the up
arrow up key one time. It might be a good idea to zoom way in to the window
before up arrow up. You are barely moving the frame. The reason you
do not see the problem in your preview windows is that your computer monitor
is progressive scan unlike a TV which is interlace scan.
Render out a short section after you make the adjustment. If it works you are
in business. If not you might try reversing the field order completely in
your project settings and matching that with your render settings custom tab.Let me know how it comes out.

Thanks for the kind words.
I’m at a loss to explain your green line.
I think the key is to examine your AE Render settings closely
to make sure they match your Vegas settings.
Since progressive looks better than interlaced I would bet
that your AE files were rendered progressive instead of interlaced.
If your end product is to be viewed on an interlaced TV you need to
get your final render out to interlaced, if to be viewed on progressive
Tv then final render needs to be progressive.Best of luck.
