a audio standalone audio file?

Perhaps this might help. Check out AAF import and export in Vegas help. This is one way to move projects back and forth between Vegas and AE. Hope that helps.

If you compress it to the right bitrate in Vegas you will not need a recompress in DVD Architect. Another prior poster gave you the settings to fit it to disk without a recompress.

Since you have fades (which is editing) a stand alone DVD Recorder will not help you.

You just need to make you mpeg render at the proper bitrate in Vegas.

The video drive partitioning sounds good.
The System drive partitioning sounds good as well.
When setting up the system drive if I wanted the best proformance I
would map the page file to the fastest part of the drive.
Your hard drive is fastest on the inner part of the platter
and slower as you get toward the outter edge.

Faster still would be to install a small drive dedicated to the page file. That’s what I’ve done with my system. This keeps my system drive from fragmenting quickly and does not slow my system drive down to write out to the page file.

120 minutes of video = 2hrs.
That’s 2hrs of video not counting your audio file, and the
files used to create your DVD menues etc.

The reality is you are going to have to drop your bitrate
a bit to fit it all on your disk. You can do a google search
for “bitrate calculator” program to help you figure out
how low to go.

I have dropped my max bitrate as low as 6000 avg. 4000 with good results.

One more tip,

If you purchase a DV Converter stay away from the ADS PYRO A /V Link.
Many folks have had problems with them, including me. I tried to save a few dollars buying the ADS Pyro, went thru two units that never worked. Then I bought the DataVideo unit that has worked great for 3 years now.

Another really cool thing about the Converter box is that after you have captured your clips and you are editing on the timeline, the conveter now outputs a composite video output to your video monitor.
Just click on the external Monitor button and you will be previewing on your video monitor instead of a computer monitor.

What you are calling “Sony Vegas 7 Platinum” is not really Vegas 7.
It is Vegas Movie Studio+DVD Platinum, a very limited version of Vegas 7 which is the Pro Version. That is why you cannot find some of the features you have been told about.

Vegas Movie Studio+DVD Platinum is designed for home movie editors.
Vegas 7 is full featured for Pro Editors.

You already have it. Your hardware came with compatible software.
The hardware you bought is not designed to work with other editing software (such as Vegas).

Vegas is designed to capture via firewire and a couple of high end cards such as decklink. For my old 8mm video (analog) I use a DV converter from DataVideo. I plug my camcorder into it and it outputs firewire DV Video to my computer. If you want to use Vegas you either need a DV Converter or a DV Camcorder that you can pass thru it as a converter for your High-8.

I would print to tape (back to DV tape) my project and playout to my projector from there using the S-Video connection. You did not mention the audio portion, make sure you have the proper cables and connectors to interface your audio.
