We use Toast 10 to make first-play BluRay discs and so far they have played fine in ever player we could find. However a double menu version using Toast’s menu options would NOT play in almost any BluRay player we tried, and it only sort of played in a Sony.
So we are limited to First play BluRay discs and these are perfect if they are looping. If not we put a pile of black at the end so the player keeps playing but just shows black….eventually they eject the disc!
We also mostly burn these “BluRay” discs to standard DVD media which is the best “secret” of all! A simple 20¢ DVD disc makes a perfect BluRay disc every time as long as your content is under 30 minutes. Longer? Just use a BluRay disc. YOu can even burn these on a DVD burner.

Interesting…..when we use the Sony XDCAM transfer into FCP we get a Sony EX 422 1080 sequence with no fields. We typically shoot 1080 30p at HQ mode.
So the sequence says it is an XDCAM sequence.
When we work in FCP and we are bringing in XDCAM EX clips, we render out to ProRes at 1920 30p and they play very nicely in the FCP timeline. In the sequence render control tab we ust select the render codec to be ProRes and all our renders look fantastic, but we can work with the smaller source files as XDCAM 422. We have not seen any quality issues with the EX footage working this way and we save tons of drive space over a full ProRes conversion.

I think it kind of works like the old AVID systems. When you imported a Quicktime movie even if it was in the AVID codec, it still created a new file with the AVID codec. I don’t think you will EVER be able to just drop a raw file of any codec onto a broadcast server. It will always compress it to the specs of the server, similar to YouTube.
We sent a 25mbps H264 1080 Quicktime movie to our CBS local station and on air I thought it looked pretty darn good….most especially next to all the rest of the standard def local spots! Color matching was darn close to our online monitor and I have a CRT HD TV at home so it was a good test.
Can’t believe they couldn’t take an H264 but they could take a WMV!

I use Peachtree software, mostly because I do my own payroll and back in 2001 there wasn’t a great solution that my accountant at that time could exchange with me. I believe Quickbooks did not have a Payroll option then. But Peachtree has been a good investment. It has been solid as a rock and payroll and other HR and client management needs have been rock solid.

BTW, run it on my only PC in the office, and it does a few other conversion tasks etc…we even convert Avid bins on that old PC.

I used Seagate’s Drive i365 in Illinois and it cost me $700. Got most of a 500 GB drive back but bigger QT files would not restore…most of our PSD and FCP and AE files were recovered. they had to replace the heads on my drive too. Plus they handled the warranty replacement.

As a rule before any major upgrade we simply Carbon Copy clone our hard drive then do the install. If things go wrong I have a very recent working backup of my exact internal drive. Just did the same thing you did with Snow Leopard and I went back in about 10 minutes changing the drive back to the backup.
Make this your rule in the future and you’ll have no problems going back.
