Read Write Repair
Hey, its me again. I know I recently submitted a post about Data Recovery, but I’ve now found out the problem with the hard drive. I sent the drive off to Data Rescue Center in San Fran. After their initial check they said that the Data Rescue III software had a longer recover time was due to the hard drive itself. They said it was having read write errors and that the read write head would need to be replaced. Only problem was, they’re charging $900.
I know a service of this kind typically cost a pretty penny, but does anyone know of a place cheaper? I have some invaluable files on this drive, and next time I know to back up all of my files. Can anyone suggest a place?

The reason for the cost is because it needs to be dont in a clean room, and cleanrooms are not cheep.

You need to understand the physical components of a hard drive.
The distance between the hard drive platter and the read/wright head are microscopic.
https://www.epicdatarecovery.com/head_to_disk_gap.jpgBecause the read/write heads on your drive are not working the platters must be removed and put into another device with working read/write heads. If this is done outside of a clean room environment the platters will get contaminated with microscopic dust particles that will cause the platter to be unreadable when placed into a device with good read/write heads.
Your lucky at the $900 price, I have known people that have spent 5000-6000 on data recovery.
Backups are your best friend. You havent saved a file until you have saved it in two places.
There are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.

I used Seagate’s Drive i365 in Illinois and it cost me $700. Got most of a 500 GB drive back but bigger QT files would not restore…most of our PSD and FCP and AE files were recovered. they had to replace the heads on my drive too. Plus they handled the warranty replacement.
