Hmmm…in Media Encoder try first encoding to Quicktime and when it asks what kind of Quicktime see if WMV isn’t in there someplace. You do the same thing in compressor.
Compressor is pretty good. The jump to Episode is about $700 but I use it every single day.

We just did a large lease of gear thru a couple vendors and one of the items is the C300. This is my second lease. Did a 28 month lease with the $1 buyout. Have your lawyer double check the fine print. I got into a lease with specific requirements for ending the lease and it got painful. The new company I went with had clearer, simpler language and we went with them.
I say lease away!

This idea is a bunch of bunk. Said the same thing when DVDs came to our homes for <$200 a player. Movie theaters were all going to go bankrupt.
Nothing compares to seeing a movie in a theater in the same way that nothing beats seeing an item, touching it, using it and then buying it. I don’t want to go to Sears and look at jeans then go home and order them online so a UPS truck can deliver it to my house. I want the jeans now.
There is room for both models, but brick and mortar shopping will never go away.

That is absolutely the issue. If you want the encoded clip to keep the source clip’s frame rate you must specify it numerically. Sometimes using “current” doesn’t give the expected results.

How did you encode it? How are you measuring the length? With timecode, with in and out points? Is the end actually truncated (missing frames) or is it just saying the clip is shorter?
What is the framerate of the source and framerate of the encoded clip?

Find someone with a Aja Kona card and let the card do the upconvert to 1080. We do this by setting one machine for the upconvert and route it to another machine with a Kona card and batch digitize into the second system. Works perfectly.
All compressor program workflows don’t stand up to what the Kona does on the fly.

Here’s the deal. The DP shot on four cards in one day and each card change the first filename was MVI_0001.
When I first LT’d the footage I dragged all four cards for that day into the window and added a prefix to the filename on the way in like “DAY1”.
Sounds good, but when the footage comes in, the first card gets each file named correctly, but when FCP hits the second card and sees a new MVI_0001 it simply keeps ascending the numbers. By the end of the fourth card the file on the capture drive was MVI_0089, when in fact there was not a single file on any card with that name.
What’s worse is you have to remember exactly what order you brought the card folders into LT because if you bring in 1-4 the first time, and 4-1 the second time all the clips get mixed up.
I ended up using timecode (at least they recorded time of day!) so I could determine what clip went with the one in my sequences by timecode then I could re-transfer them, albeit with a new filename.
It was madness, but it is over now!

If I added up all the money I spent on deck repair and tape, then I added up how much I spent on all the hard drives I’ve had to buy, enclosures, cables etc I’d go back to tape in a moment.
And I’d sleep better.
Now I am looking at LTO, another $3000 to throw at this “dream” of a tapeless workflow.
Still hard to not feel that the manufacturers left us in the lurch with this whole tapeless workflow.
