Wisconsin State Fair this weekend here too….Have to take the kids to the Austin Mahone concert tomorrow night….he’s a “Bieber Lite” act.

I think we have the chocolate dipped bacon on a stick…very tasty.

    And lots of cheese interpretations.

  • If we know a project will go to YouTube and DVD and especially a possible PAL delivery we will shoot 23.976 as long as we aren’t mixing our footage with any 29.97 clips.

Also purely animations are sometimes done in 23.976 to reduce frames needed to render.

We use Episode to convert 23.976 to 29.97p as it has great control over the output and we have made great looking pulldowns without hardware.

There are reasons, but if we go to broadcast as a primary delivery I usually recommend 29.97p (30p)

  • Sounds like a Mark III to me. Lots of issues. We now use 5DtoRGB as our conversion app for all things Mark III.

You cannot trust the Log and Transfer with ANY Mark III footage.

“If you analyze how X is designed and built, it excels at fast-turnaround, news-oriented productions. So broadcast news and web extensions for print operations seem like a natural.”

Interesting, because the Newscutter was Avid’s bread and butter….was Apple being simply genius by secretly going after the news guys (lower cost than AVID and perhaps less headaches) all along?

Here we’ve been bashing or applauding Apple for this new tool that wasn’t meant for any of us really..but rather the news outlets…not that would move some product if it took off. Every producer and editor at a news outlet would have a copy.

    Ker-ching.

Hey guys; We can log and transfer C100 footage using our existing AVCHD importer thru Log and Transfer. I believe it is the same one we use to log and transfer from an old Sony Consumer handycam.

Hmmm….not sure why you need another app to do it.

Interesting that DVCProHD and XDCAM are the two native formats we do edit with in FCP7 but we do log and transfer them first, even though the new clips end up being the exact same size after transferring.

We as editors are sort of ready for the next big codec….maybe an x264 size with the ease of editing of ProRes LT. Small filesize, easy on the processor, cuts with ease. What is up Apple’s sleeve? A new universal codec package with the new FCPX? Something cross platform (doubtful) or will Adobe come up with it’s own codec, perhaps after purchasing Cineform or other? Plus they will all need to be scalable to 4k.

    Hmm…

  • And if you have access to it, I am finding I can encode to x264 at 1/3 the bitrate with the same quality as h264, so when I have a lot of footage or a long clip for YouTube or Vimeo I go x264 and it makes the transfer a lot easier. I am a huge x264 fan!
