  • Since we are reminiscing, I need to add that in the early 1990s I ran a Digital FX Composium which competed with the Quantel Paintbox but had a killer DVE built in as well. Paired with a couple of Abekas DDR’s (why they were only 24 seconds is beyond me) we could layer for days with no loss. What an experience. And I edited on one of the very first Avid’s ever sold…serial number 11!

I still have my AfterEffects 3.5 inch floppy installers for version 2.0.

Ok, got that off my chest.

Because my company, Tilt Media, turns 20 years on January 1, 2021. Yup, started Tilt Media in Madison, Wisconsin on January 1, 2001.

And the Cow has been there every step of the way!

  • Also Super stands for superimposed…so it is a graphic or other element that is put over another shot. Lower third typically means a name title and is also sometimes called Name Super to be more specific. Could also be called a Keyable Graphic.

Or make a new project and import the sequences you need using Media Browser from the other project.

I tried both of these things. Still the mask goes whacky after a few keyframes are added. Absolutely befuddling. I figured nesting would work….nope. Then I exported the clip running at 90% and brought it back in….nope, either the clip drifts between layers, or the mask literally renders in a different spot than where it is drawn!

I just had this happen to me…go to preferences and Playback and make sure audio is Adobe Desktop Audio. Not sure why it changes but mine did too!

I missed the past few shows but still hope to get back to NAB sometime. I like the sense of scale that this industry boasts. Hard to get that online. I do think smaller regional shows might become a hit. But one reason I like NAB in Vegas is to rent a Harley and do some riding. And that works just as well in Spring or Fall in Vegas!

It still remains to be seen if we will even be back to whatever normal looks like by next Fall.

  • Hire Bob.

  • I used to love a feature in Avid where you could open a bin full of clips and select all or a group of clips and simply hit Command-I and it would give the total running time. Very cool. Avid’s database back end and the way it understood timecode was very impressive. Not helpful for this post however!
