h264 at 15,000 kbps is going to look good and hold up to further encoding assuming you retain frame size etc. We use higher bitrate h264 a lot for an intermediary codec….including station deliveries.

This reminds me of the crazy updates to iMovie….I don’t use it but my nephew and brother do. They were using different versions and I tried helping them…but the two versions were completely different how they handled the media and timeline etc. It all got switched around in just one update.
Apple has that way of abandoning a workflow for another if for some reason it makes more sense to them. Good luck keeping up!
Ironically they did not do that with Final Cut Pro legacy and it just remained and remains a great little editing program.

I think you are also perhaps forcing a shallow depth of field thinking it is the right look….but if you took advantage of the low light capabilities of the 5D close the iris a bit and increase the ISO which will give a wider range of focus. And using a wider angle lense will also help stabilize shots.

GOOD POINT…..for just accessing an esata enclosure and copying files or just checking a backup I suppose a USB3 to esata would be just fine and most likely more compatible. Does the new Mac Pro have all USB3 ports?
We use hot swappable 3.5″ drive trays in a JBOD enclosure with four bays. Each Mac gets one dedicated bay and we all have an esata card on our MacPros. But using a simple USB3 to esata could be a pain free way to get to those drives without compatibility issues with thunderboldt daisychaining.

We do this all the time….I encode mp4 at 320 x 180 at around 200kbps and 48k mono ACC audio. This nets a very useable encode that is very small, can have a timecode window and sounds great.
This does not have to be super great quality…it has to be small, easily uploaded/downloaded, and have decent audio with a picture!

Ours was pretty quiet too….fan just seized up. $480 to fix it plus I had to rent the C100 to cover the days it was out.
They have a new dust flange modification they are putting in that supposedly diverts dust away from the sensor when you change a lens. I think it also might actually divert more air to the sensor for better cooling…not sure.
But they would not cover the fan repair under warranty (ours is 5 months out and is only lightly used….it looks like new. No dust whatsoever inside according to the tech. Still they would not cover it.
But they are jumping right on it…should have it back mid next week and I just sent it in yesterday!

Hmm….ProRes is really for video clips, not stills. How about Tiff format with LZW compression? I’m still not sure what you are working with as the source files…are they single images (one to a file) or like a filmstrip (a bunch of stills strung together into a clip)?
ProRes isn’t the trick for stills. JPEG 2000 is very good especially at that resolution.

What will the final deliverable be? Are you on Mac or PC? Are the PSD sequences like image sequences scanned from 35mm moving video, or actual still photos?
I would go with a ProRes workflow using the Proxy for offline editing then ProRes HQ for the final.
