On that suggestion I agree….we have to absolutely eagle eye everything. If you rendered a Morph Cut and then didn’t select Use Previews sending to Encoder you’ll get the Analyzing Data bar across the screen.
First time we had to do this since we spot checked Betacam station dubs for dropout in 1997…I have to watch every single frame of every encode going to the client…..because of Premier “Pro”.

Did anyone else hear that Oscar winner throw a shout out to AVID during his speech this year? Hope they have that on a loop at NAB!

Here’s a good one…..I had a series of eight 1″ tapes about 90 minutes each produced in 2001. The client was streaming 240 x 120 windows media files…back then that was the codec of choice on PCs. Don’t know the last time I made a Windows Media codec encode.
I was commissioned to fire up the old 1″ machine, which I did brilliantly, and digitized the eight tapes to a luscious 640 x 480 MP4 and send to the client. They were impressed! Both with the newfound quality and the small ish size.
Used Adobe Media encoder to make the files on the new iMac Pro and it took about 8 minutes per video to encode!
By the way I used to be able to spool up the 1″ machine in less than 5 seconds back in the heyday of four machines in the taperoom, and today I had it down to just under 8 seconds in my finest attempt.
Visitors honestly weren’t impressed with the 1″ machine. Thought it belonged in a museum. I thought it was a thing of art!
Times have changed….luckily I have tried my darndest to change with them!

I had an old MacPro tower and the new iMac Pro is much faster. Overall great experience except less than two months in it literally died. Dead. Like dead. Apple store guys were flabbergasted. Bummer I lost all my installs and configurations including monitor profiles etc since I had just finished building it up with all the goodies and hadn’t done my first backup…..lesson learned!

I’m a big fan of LT. It’s about 25-30% smaller and plays very nice on a timeline. Visually indistinguishable from 422 unless you are keying with it or doing heavy compositing. We deliver broadcast spots in LT.

We have two iMacPros with a second 21:9 Dell widescreen monitor…tons of real estate. We have the QNAP 1282T3 and use the 10Gige to the 10Gige on the QNAP for about 700MB/sec speeds. Our old towers connect with the old reliable gigabit.
Yes, some desktop woes, but working thru them. A dock for the iMacPro isn’t really out there…most are for Macbook Pros that don’t have any ports. But the thing is fast. The internal SSD is pulling 3000MB/sec and that is no joke!
Photoshop is open in 6 seconds.
So far so good. Even liking the keyboard and mouse that came with them….and although we got the new trackpad we haven’t really used them much yet.

With GoPro footage in Premier I have just gotten accustomed to converting to ProRes before I ever import to Premier….I know, sounds so old fashioned but it always works and plays back great. Not sure why Premier stumbles so much when like you said, Quicktime plays it fine. I think that’s why Final Cut is more optimized with some footage because of the motherboard chips that Apple uses and premier doesn’t.
