Ok I got the footage and it is in fact 1080i DVCProHD running at 29.97. Still I will be working on an SD timeline. I think I will be fine to bring in all the clips, string them out on a sequence and output to DVCProHD tape. This way we will have a timecoded tape that will match the clips and can be redigitized either SD or HD.
My concern is with 23.98 footage going out to tape, which we also get often enough. I wanted to be sure the 23.98 got the pulldown to make a 29.97 (59.94) HD source I could also digitize later either SD or HD.
One more thing….we are on all G5 dual 2.7 ppc so putting HD clips in an SD timeline is not a great workflow without the processing power to handle the multi streams and different resolutions…
Anyone else?

I’m going to agree with Billy on the JVC as well. BUT, I have to say that the picture is great, but the build quality is not as nice as the Panasonic 26″. Nice gold connectors on the back, and lots of adjustments for the picture. But the housing looks and feels a little cheap to me.
Picture is very solid, and we have the Sony 14″ CRT for any SD work.

Do whatever you can to exceed expectations….also, offer services that the other guys don’t…like duplication. Be a resource for others who might have questions about gear etc. Get involved in organizations where people like yourself meet. That will only help get your name out there even more.

iStockPhoto has several chalkboards in green and black for this. There is a font called chalkboard that looks fine, but other script fonts work. We used the stroke effect to “write-on” the text and images and used a huge brush to wipe off the stuff. We didn’t need to leave dust trails behind on the board….the iStock image had lots of those on the board already so it looked pretty good to use what was there. The key is not making the type look too digital on the board. I used noise applied to the font and transfer modes to make it look more like it was chalk on the board, not digital white.

Not sure in your version but in the latest somewhere in there you can choose between a Program stream or a Transport stream.

Somehow I could do this…I don’t recall what I did. I think it depends on which preset you start with, duplicate it and then adjust the settings. I had to make a similar MPEG and at first I could not change the VBR setting…..later I tried again and I could select CBR no problem.
Again it depends on which preset you start with (can’t recall) and how you change the settings.
I loathe compressor.

We did a shoot in China, Spain, France and Milwaukee. We used crews in the other countries and shot with our own crew here in WI.
We had the best results with the China crew. Right now there are a ton of people over there for the olympics. We sent some sample shots, told them exactly what we wanted and it was some of the best footage we got back.
If you don’t have to go, and you are just shooting a small number of shots, you can find a great crew to get them for you.
We had them shoot DVCPro HD to match the rest of our footage.
