Many thanks for your responses – which largely confirmed my hunches. It seems the MPB solution (as described on your blog) is the answer. When I price out the comparison of Retina / Non-Retina there seems to be some argument for the Retina. Both machines below retail at $2499.00.

You loose the SuperDrive and Firewire port with the Retina but gain a second Thunderbold port and a 2.7Hz vs 2.6Hz processor. Am I missing
other parameters?

Hi – And thanks for the bad news 🙂 And yes 6 years is a software eternity.

So . . . it seems like I can go to Apple and F C Studio 3 will be $1K. As I only use FCP & SoundtrackPro is there a legitimate way to buy these? Or any upgrade pricing for those of us with F C Studio 2 to 3?

I actually own FCP X but am so invested in my present workflow (and yes stubborn) that just thinking about making the switch makes me seasick.

If I assume I’ll have to bite the 1K bullet will their be issues with running 7 on my present system (see above). Am I wrong to assume 7 and the new MacBook as configured above will give me a significant boost in rendering times?

I appreciate your advice as I know it saves me time/headaches and very
likely significant amounts of money. As I’m a one man shop working mostly for non-profits my budget is limited.

Besides being able to move media folders to various external drives the ability
to copy to multiple sources at once is a feature I find really efficient.

And the latest version of ShotPut Pro is back in my workflow.

I began using ShotPut Pro after watching your tutorial – Tapeless Workflow . . .

I just upgraded to SP P v.4+ and like the upgraded interface and easy workflow.
