    I used ShotPut Pro (SPP) with Leopard & FCP 6. I have upgraded to Lion and FCPX. The upgrade for SPP is $30.00.

    While the upgrade cost is not steep does SPP provide a “safer” or more efficient way to copy DSLR video files than using “Image Capture” or FCPX directly?

    Yes.

    by offering the user automated archiving, with MD5 or better checksum assurance- you know that your content has been copied and that copy is verified as being accurate.

    FCP or OSX do not allow you to confirm that the copy is indeed accurate.

    Also, the latest version of ShotPut Pro has a much improved user interface (along with the md5 checksum).

    In my opinion, anyway.

    I swear by ShotPut Pro…and when I can, INSIST that the camera operators utilize it. I cannot tell you how many times one or more camera originals copied over and left out some information…typically the most important part of an interview. SPP ensures that won’t happen.

    It should be noted that ShotPut can be used to move any folder to any drive, and not just camera based structures.

    Great for verified copies for long term archiving or company moves to other storage systems.

    I began using ShotPut Pro after watching your tutorial – Tapeless Workflow . . .

    I just upgraded to SP P v.4+ and like the upgraded interface and easy workflow.

    Thanks Jeremy –

    Besides being able to move media folders to various external drives the ability
    to copy to multiple sources at once is a feature I find really efficient.

    And the latest version of ShotPut Pro is back in my workflow.
