Yes this will work if both of your systems are of the same vintage as you need the machines to read the media. ie: nubus, abvb, meridien etc.
We do exactly what you are wanting to do – and we do it daily between 4 expresses and one media composer, all of which are ABVB.

Hi there,
At this point I am unsure what to suggest to you, other than moving the media from one to another – and not re-importing.Sorry I cannot be of more assistance

Hello,
Depending on your editing environment here are my thoughts:
– have they worked in a multi-editor environment, where projects are shared?
ie: one editor assembles, another editor does the rough cut, etc. etc.– ask them to set up for a multi-show editing job. ie: a five episode tv series.
If they put all five episodes into one project OR do they make seperate projects for all five episodes, plus a sixth project for shared or common elements (ie: opener, bumpers etc.)– ask them to res up a project
– ask them to quickly organize some mixed media (ie: different projects)
– can they consolidate?
– can they do a “Replace Edit”. This as you know is a major time saver when editing.
– ask them to work with keyboard shortcuts (if they can’t, time is ticking)
Good luck,

What are the specs of the Avid Express and Avid Media Composer?
Are they the same vintage?
ie: both meridian
The was we do things here with multiple machines. We import once into the Express – then move the media over to the Composer. Then you are moving Avid media files, not the raw aif files. So all of the master clips are the same etc.

Hi,
Just so you know, when asking questions like this, it is best to list your system configurations and platform. That makes it easier to answer your questions. Oh, your web address/download does not work. From a MAC point of view:
I find the best is to always use Quicktime and save as an AIF file. Do not get fancy with anything (ie: itunes or any other program). This requires one save, then one import into the program of choice (Avid, AE etc.)
Ensure your Quicktime settings are set to the appropriate sample rate (22/44 and stereo/mono etc.).
Save as AIFF.
Import file into Avid/AE etc.We use all Mac Avids. Four ABVB express machines, one ABVB media composer, and an After Effects station running OS 10 and AE 6.5 – the express’s prep and do the assemble edits. Then the MC does the rough cut/fine cuts.
It works everytime when we use the old version of Quicktime. Before Apple started to want to take $29 just for the ability to save or export.

No I was not aware how you can do a easy batch. Thank you very much. We will have to try that!

January 2, 2006 at 2:06 am in reply to: Avid ABVB Quicktime with Mac OS XOk, thanks Dave for the mpeg tip. Were the outputs quicker as the size was smaller? And importing back into the Avid the final AE.
I wasn’ sure if someone figured it out yet or not with OS X/Quicktime. (dreaming)

I tried what you suggested but it did not appear to change things.
The buttons are changing on their own and not responding at all to my attempts.
