Not an elegant solution but in the timeline index, search for the role(s) you DON’T want to export in the clip index.

All of the clips with that role (or roles) will be highlighted. Hit the V key to disable all of them and then export.

Disabled clips won’t be exported.

So the real issue I was asking about is clearly explained in the video that Aindreas linked to above.

Premiere Pro (and some other NLEs) previously could not trim a clip to a zero duration. That always left a minimum of a single frame when extend editing or ripple or roll trimming to the end of a clip or to an edit point.

FCP7 can actually trim right past an edit point and into the next clip.

Your Project folder could have Render files which might be the problem.

Remove those render files and see if your project launches.

Tim Cook might not have said Mac Pro but Apple confirmed a new Mac Pro for 2013:

“Apple said today that it is working on new models and designs for its Mac Pro desktop that will be released in 2013.”

Apple has a road map with a new Mac Pro for 2013.

Many people I know, myself included, will continue with the Mac platform. Whether that will be an 8 core iMac (!), a Retina MacBook Pro, or a 2013 Mac Pro remains to be seen. Probably a combination.

It also might be a corrupt video file/render file in that specific Event and not the CurrentVersion.fcpevent file itself.

Try removing half of the files in the Event folder > Original Media and see if the project opens. If not try the other half and move on to the remaining Optimized/Rendered files.

FCPX hangs for me at every launch but at the Restoring the window layout screen. This is on two MacPros and an iMac.

The solution for me is to trash FCPX’s preference file. See tip #6 here:
