First off, I don’t believe Avid is qualified on any system that uses an i3 processor. Not that Avid doesn’t run on unqualified systems, but little problems tend to arise when you don’t work on a qualified system.
There’s quite a bit to know about 7D with Avid, largely the color space issues that tend to arise. AMA has a tendency to crush blacks when you link to 7D footage. You can right click the AMA clip and select “Set Source” to adjust it, but there tends to be slight variances. It’s generally not the end of the world, but you should be prepared for it.
Don’t try to edit it as AMA clips. It will be clunky and slow (especially on a i3). Transcode. If you want to do an offline, you could go DNxHD 36 (or even go standard def into the 15:1s range). If you want to avoid a conform, then you can transcode to DNxHD 115 or 175, but that will require a lot of hard drive.
You mentioned you’re new to Avid, correct? In by new, have you ever edited on Avid? I’m not trying to be condescending, just trying to get an idea. There can be a bit of a learning curve. I’d recommend you pick up an Avid book, or buy an Avid Tutorial DVD ASAP. If you’ve worked on Final Cut, there’s a good tutorial DVD called “Media Composer for FCP Users”

Did your system crash recently? Bus Thread Errors, anything that might account for general weirdness? Are you using “Link to AMA File” or “Link to AMA Volume”? What is your project format set to? Is your AMA clip going offline?
I never seen this specifically, those are just some of the things I would check.

I’m pretty sure this is the case. I’ve never seen the Full Quality 10-Bit mode available without at least a Mojo SDI. If you’re working file based, it shouldn’t matter (Except when you do full screen monitoring). If you were running out to a BOB and off to tape, then it would be important.

If you shot directly to DNxHD (as MXF files) you should be able to drag those directly into your Avid Media FilesMXF1 folder. Delete your database files (pmr and mdb) and Avid will rebuild those database files and then you can either use the Media Tool to bring them in, or another good trick is to drab the mdb file into a bin. If you already have media in your Avid Media FilesMXF1 folder, create a 2 folder. That way when you drag the mdb file, it will just be those new files.

I’m not sure if a PC MC6 can read Pro Res. I know it can’t create Pro Res media, so that might be one reason to convert to DNxHD. Aside from that, DNX145 is 8-bit, and Pro Res is 10-bit, so that might be one reason to leave it Pro Res (Assuming it was acquired from a 10 bit source).

Gotcha. I would talk to them, see if they upgraded in the past via e-mail to track that information. Though, it’s entirely possible it was retained on the activated system if you go to that system and run Avid License Control. I kept my dongle, because I’m stubborn and resistant to change.

Just for the sake of asking, does this mean you upgrading somebody else’s license of Avid as your own? If you have your Avid master account, you should be able to login to check it. If you upgraded several versions and have a dongle, it should be on the tag on the dongle. If you upgraded online, it should be listed on e-mail sent out when you upgraded. Outside of those, don’t know.

First link. XDCAM browser software. If it’s the XDCAM’s native format this will work. If you’ve already AMAed into the Avid, the browser software won’t work. I believe Calibrated Software makes an MXF import program that allows you to view MXF files like Quicktime files. I don’t know if it will display the timecode, but it will show you the content. I believe it’s about $250.
