The two main differences are noise reduction and output resolution. If you need to output higher Res than HD, then you will need Studio. Also the noise reduction is really good. Especially for any project that will be shown on a large screen. I believe that performance is the same between versions. Here is a link to a comparison between the two. https://filmora.wondershare.com/davinci-resolve/davinci-resolve-vs-davinci-resolve-studio.html

You can upgrade your card to an Nvidia 4000 with 2gb GPU but I do’t think you can get much more GPU memory in that machine. Also increasing your RAM and putting in a SSD replacement hard drive and a SSD to use asa a fast cache drive will help a lot. I did this a while back on a similar machine and the increase was impressive.
Keep in mind that Adobe manages RAM on a per thread basis so the amount of RAM you have would only use about 1/2 of your CPU power in HD when using Adobe.. Even less in higher resolutions.

August 3, 2019 at 2:51 am in reply to: “Unable to add new file system mount” to access footage from my External Hard Drive in Resolve:Are you using the light version? Did you get it from the apple apps store or from Black Magic? Sometimes the Apple store version has issues. Do you have the “automatically display attached local and network storage” Checked. Found under preferences/media storage.

August 2, 2019 at 8:51 pm in reply to: “Unable to add new file system mount” to access footage from my External Hard Drive in Resolve:Can you see it on your desktop or within finder? If not, it might have been ejected improperly. Try running “first aid” using disk utility. It may also be an incompatible format. If that is the case you could find a third party software that can read it and let you make a copy of it.

Amount GPU memory matters when using DaVinci Resolve. I’m running it on the iMac 27 quad core with 4gb of GPU and it runs pretty well. Having a fast external cache drive helps as well. My renders are about real time on larger projects. I also have a new iMac Pro with 16gb of GPU I haven’t had any issues even with 8k sources.

November 3, 2017 at 2:19 pm in reply to: Working with mouse and keyboard in After Effects gives weird problem. What hardware are you using? Is your mouse and keyboard plugged directly into your computer or do the go through another device like a USB hub? If they do try plugging in directly and rebooting.

I found this tutorial that seems to work using effect + noise and grain + fractal noise.

I see now. The only work-a-round I can see is to pre comp the pre comp again and do the move inside the new pre comp which doesn’t effect the matte.
