If you skip the Set Matte step and just choose alpha matte from the Track Matte pull down on the layer itself it should work the way you want it to. Giving you a stationary matte and a moving foreground.

Hi Frank,
I hope you have resolved your issue. When I install DaVinci Resolve 12 on my old Mac using a GPU with 2048 of memory the install told me that 4096 was the minimum recommended for this version. I had similar issues to what you have described until I upgraded the GPU.
