  • Hi Neil,

I’m frankly amazed you are getting any decent use out of the Desktop video drivers other than version 9.5.3

Do you not have unusable delays when trying to scrub with the caps lock on?

If not, perhaps the Decklink sdi card is not supported in the same way the intensity pro is?

I’d love to hear your feedback on this

  • Not sure if anyone at Blackmagic is checking this thread, but this problem is still not fixed in 9.6.6, in fact it is worse! It now causes a complete freeze up of Media Composer 6.5 once caps lock has been put on and any attempt at scrubbing is undertaken. As usual reverting to 9.5.3 fixes this.

Amazingly the readme for the software, under what’s new, claims ‘Avid Media Composer 6.5 releasing hardware support’ Clearly not very good hardware support!

I have tried asking about this on the Blackmagic forums, but have had no response.

Can we at least get a confirmation that this is a recognised problem?

I am using the Decklink SDI unders Windows 7 pro, if that makes any difference at all

  • Just wondering, is there a better place to be reporting these issues than the Creative Cow forums?

  • Hi Sarah,

very disappointed to report that despite several updated versions since the problem returned you still haven’t managed to put the scrub fix back in for Avid users.

9.64 is the latest version, but Avid users can’t use anything past 9.53

This problem was fixed and then returned after a minor update and has stayed broken since

It renders the Avid unusable as we cannot do an audio scrub without a roughly 2 second delay before picture and audio cut back in

Can someone report whether this may be fixed soon as it has now been a while!

  • Hi Ken, the latest Avid update 6.03 allows you to easily switch between hardware and software modes.

  • Hi guys,

I can confirm you did fix the issue of Avid not detecting the Blackmagic card in your 9.6.1 update

However, the major audio scrub issue you fixed in 9.5.3 is once again back!

Is there any way this can be easily resolved? Unfortunately this is a total deal breaker for anyone that needs audio! lol

All Avid users I know have gone back to 9.5.3 for the time being

  • Hi Chris,

Which version of MC6 are you using and which version of the Blackmagic drivers?

The latest update to MC6 allows you to switch off hardware support, however what you are describing doesn’t sound normal and I reckon should be fixable

Edit; I managed to find out how to do it. Basically, I should have mapped out the audio of the clips before I put them on the timeline, by right clicking and modifying, then changing the stereo track to two mono tracks… Et Voila.

However I had already finished the edit and was planning to fix the audio once finished as I always have done with Avid. There is a workaround for this; an audio effect called fill left or fill right, which duplicates the right channel to the left or vice versa.

Hope this is useful to someone else

Cheers Chris. I’ve actually had to slightly change my plan as the laptop I wanted was gone by the time I went to purchase it.

    I am now going for a Dell xps 17, featuring;

I7-2630QM 2ghz quad core with hyper threading
    8gig of ram
Nvidia Gt 555m with 3ghz of ram
    17″ 1600 x 900 screen

My G-drive will be connected by E-sata, but I have it in a raid5 congig. I appreciate raid0 is considerably faster, but I have had a few issues with drives in the past that have cost me clients after valuable data was lost. I now always err on the side of caution.

I do however have an SSD for my system drive and an extra 7200 internal drive for my scratch disk.

Do you think this setup might cause me problems?

Hi Chris, I am just about to bite the bullet and order myself the identical laptop with the same GPU and specs. My question for you is, do you know how well it handles native AVCHD footage? Does it struggle with multiple streams? I will not have time to transcode on location and will have to work with the footage immediately as it comes out of my Panasonic AF101.

    Cheers
