One follow up question: What operating software is currently industry standard?

My students will be cutting on all 3 very soon. My PPr is Windows; I have 5 of them. My iMacs are i5 (due to pricing concerns), and I will have 2 of them. I can only afford 1 Avid license and 1 ProTools license. Whereas I prefer Apple OS, I want to make sure I purchase the correct one for the TV and Film industry standards. It’s what my students want to learn, at risk high school kids.

That’s a good question actually. It depends the exact situation. The beauty of contracts is they are good paper trails for preventing disputes (like the lawn guy) but pretty shoddy at resolving them.

Contracts in and of themselves do not guarantee that the signers will live up to their end of the contract; and also it means, if you don’t get paid, then you still have to start the legal action, which is very detailed and is not straight forward at all. If the trust between parties breaks down legal action drastically complicates the situation.

Here’s a brain teaser: When you order food at a restaurant is that a contract, a promise to pay COD at the end of the meal?

Are you worried about theft or opens?

For theft, there’s not much you can do.
For opens, you can use nuts and bolts.

I used to work for UPS when I was much younger, loading package cars. One of my drivers had a Guitar Center on his route and I’d load him up with all kinds of really expensive stuff, with brand names: Gibson, Roland, Sure. The facility was so well lit and well accounted, and we worked so fast under a supervisor’s ungodly pace, there’s almost no time or opportunity for theft.
