Here’s what I did.

I created a sequence from each bin. And then used Project Manager to put those sequences and media in a good place. And then closed that project. Opened a new project and used Media Browser to import the bin/sequence stuffs.

It’s not bad.

It sounds like your RELEASE setting may be too long.

It’s wise also to select the entire audio track, RIGHT CLICK, and “remove effects.” The dynamics effect is applied to the track. You can also therefore, RIGHT CLICK, and choose “audio channels” and make each channel the same.

The old FCP7 workflow is dead and buried.

PP (and X also) are agnostic with the video in the timeline. The trick (and it’s said here daily 🙂 is to use the Media Browser to import the footage, and do not use drag-and-drop nor CMD-I.

Your final exports will be to the specs you decide. You no longer have to “Log and Transfer” to APR.

It depends on your codec. If you are using h.264, a very common codec, then PP will not need to transcode to Apple Pro Res. That can save you a lot of time and money, because of the compression. If that’s the case, then turn your existing mac into a media server in a few quick steps, using simple apple protocol. (That’s what I do.)

If you need more throughput because you’re using Red, Arri, or Canon Raw via Apple Pro res or DnxHD from Avid, then you will need something much more expensive. Google: Pegasus Promise, for example — and there are many competing vendors.

regarding student loans: The student loan debt in the US has reached crisis. Students need to calculate the cash repayment obligation. Many loans are amortized negatively and unpaid interest is capitalized. That’s infinite debt repayment. That is a massive opportunity cost. It is very important to pay them off as soon as possible (sacrificing other purchasing) because student loans cannot be discharged by bankruptcy.
