proxy editing MTS file ?
I have 200 clips of MTS file shot from my camcorder (PAL) in a folder named “orig”. With Ffmpeg, I transcode those clips to ProRes(LT) 720×576 widescreen (MOV files) and put all these files in a folder named “footage”.
I choose CS3 DV-PAL widescreen project setting and save with a name “DVD”, then I import those MOV files, cut n join, put some transition here and there – no color correction – no effect in the timeline.
My goal is to make two final output : DVD format and HD format.
So, for the DVD format I directly export those MOV files in the timeline using AME export Mpeg2DVD. Done. Close the “DVD” project.
workflow-A.
I renamed the folder “footage” to “footage_mov”, then I renamed the folder “orig” (which contains the MTS files) to “footage”.I make a new CS3 project, I choose HDV 1080i25 (50i) project setting and give a name “HD”. Import the “DVD” project, but Premiere asking me : where is the file ‘001.mov’ ?
So I link the file to ‘001.mts’, and Premiere keep asking me for the rest of the files …. I have to link manually all the 200 hundred files one by one. Annoying :).
I close the “HD” project.
Rename via DOS-command all the MTS files to .mov extension.
So now in the ‘footage’ folder I have a MTS files but with .mov extension.Open the “HD” project, then import the “DVD” project, Premiere didn’t ask the same question like before – but the clips from the “DVD” project now all become offline. I link media again one by one. Copy all the edited files from the sequence timeline of ‘DVD’ project and paste to ‘HD’ sequence timeline. Export to Mpeg2BluRay.
So from here, my problem is :
1. link the media one by one
2. after point-1, it takes a long time to load (more than 1 hour). As I read from the internet, to get the best HD quality is use the original files (MTS) … and I want to do that, that’s why all the steps above.
My question is :
I understand of my old computer, so the problem in point-2 is OK with me but is there a way to solve the problem in point-1 ?workflow-B :
I made another ProRes(LT) files, this time I didn’t downscale to 720×576 but keep the 1920×1080. The file size is about 5x larger than the original mts files. After importing the ‘DVD’ project to ‘HD’ project, Premiere exactly put the ‘mov’ files which is now 1920×1080 and I only have to wait a few minutes to load.
My question here, which one is actually better source to get a best quality of 1920×1080 HD ? The original MTS files as the source (workflow-A) ? or the transcoded 1920×1080 ProRes(LT) files (workflow-B) ?
another question :
do I actually need to make the ‘HD’ project then import the ‘DVD’ project ? or, can I just open the ‘DVD’ project – do either link media one by one to MTS file or to 1920×1080 ProRes file then directly export to Mpeg2BluRay ?Any kind of respond will be greatly appreciated.
I’m sorry for my broken English.
Thank you in advanced.regards.
