Actually, that’s what brought me to the Cow in 2005. I needed to figure out how to morph one character into another, and my friend said there’s an After Effects reshape tutorial on the Cow. Since my actual last name is Herd, I was sold! I even bought some products from the advertisers!!
Shane’s P2 workflow was also very useful, circa 2006.-ish. He may be appalled to know that I still use his organizing technique in FCP X. Only, I use the Finder and Folders as bins and then select the option “import folders as keywords.” Another dirty little secret: Keywords ARE bins.

Not only camera native support but also LUT and CDL support. Think about it for a sec, here. Many cameras, many codex, but 1 LUT vis a vis CDL and that is what you see on the display, what the client sees — before editing even begins, a toggle check-box-type-switch in the color menu. Oh and before you scoff, it’s almost there. It’s not quite a switch, you have to make a photoshop element, and then tell the color to be like “that.” Wallah. It’s not magic. It’s metadata.
I know I know. We need a job today, to pay rent, buy groceries, save for retirement, so we have to cut in Avid, Legend, or Adobe. And who has time to learn new software? Oh yeah, we all have to learn new software because Legend is EOL’d. I believe that marketing department, but not the other marketing department, so now I have to confess my error. Suck it up and move on.

Pretend to edit in Legend. Then when the client leaves, 7tox and cut in X. then x2pro. Then back to 7 for client preview session. We’d pretend to “render” so I could make up the costs of log and transfer to a single codec and use the I/O’s layback app. It’s all buried in the cost structure.

There’s two simple reasons:

2. Brand recognition.Some folks on this particular board admitted to using them because that’s “pro” equipment.
I would argue an IRR is a more accurate accounting method rather than a percentage of gross sales. If a business unit is making money, there’s no reason to cease it — just the opposite. It should be grown.

You bring up another topic by accident, though: Video is now a fashion industry. It’s happened in other industries before, so it’s not surprising really. Korg v. Roland. Peavey v. Marshall. Fender v. Gibson.
I imagine the Hollywood editors, with their up-turned Polo collars, sunglasses on their heads: “Hey brah, pass the mojito. So how impressed was your client?”
Did you know all those Marshall cabinets on rock stages aren’t really speakers? Nothing is stopping you, then, from doing the same thing with three, four, or five tower-formed Mac Pros, to impress folks 😉

What if its a scalable type thing, a bunch of quasi mac minis. You can stack each 8 GB unit (my imagination not fact) as a kind of render farm and you’ll get your 512GB.
I’m just sayin’: construal is everything.
Think of the profit margins. Herb can buy 10 of ’em. Shane can buy 44 of ’em. Jeremy can buy 52. Bill won’ buy one. and so on, so that you scale your own thing. I’ll buy 4 of ’em, a cute matching set for my family, the wife and twins and me.
