Shakespeare has a sonnet that starts “A rose by any other name still smells as sweet.” The point is Ranges v In-Out-Points is a silly subjective semantic squabble, in my opinion, that I don’t care about. I wish you luck attacking windmills.

Did you try this? In an x audio tab, you can choose whether the audio is stereo, or mono, or surround. In mono, each piece of audio shows up as a check box and audiograph (not a true waveform). At that point you can listen to the audio and decide which one to use. It’s even clever enough that you can shift-click many clips and turn them to mono, stereo, surround simultaneously.
In this way, no audio ever needs to be broken apart from its sync video. If you, on the other hand, want to add audio to the attachment, then you can simply add the clip again, from the viewer-that’s-not-a-viewer and only use the audio.

Generally speaking, I like to keep my original capture (P2 in my case) on a separate drive altogether. Then I save my project and event on another drive, often the system drive, and I import the footage. As that makes a folder storing footage, I add folders to that folder for things like SFX, Score, Foley, and so on, that I import using keywords. To me, it doesn’t make sense to create folders as keywords and drag and drop and rewrap and blah blah blah because that’s what X is very good at. There’s even an S_Ton of 3rd party apps that let you get the media out of X and into a plethora of other apps.

I hope that makes sense. The nomenclature is all wonky-mcgee compared with Legacy terms.

My silly test. I went to the mac store and opened up X on the Retina. Then I range selected some canned footage and I made it 50% slower, and used optical flow. See how long it felt. Not too bad. It seemed fast.
The Mac Pro across the room didn’t have the footage.
