I wish I had a 900 to worry about. Those of you who are lucky enough to have received theirs have anything substanitive to report about the picture quality and how you are (if you are) having the camera set up?

Switched to the yellow cap Panasonic product, and no problem. Alex at Panasonic service suggests (of course) that I be using Panasonic tapes. If that’s what it takes, then so be it. And now, FYI, Panasonic charges the same price for Red cap as Yellow cap. Fuji still gets a premium for the red cap, for now.
Still waiting for the 900 camera. But I have tape.

Even though Panny sent out the release on 7/26 that they were available, my dealer says my camera is now scehduled for later this month

That’s what I believe, but practice has proven differently-at least in my 1200a Deck

I am using only the red cap tape product with success in the Varicam and then in the 1200A. Using the yellow cap tape (Fuji) and then inserting a red cap tape (also Fuji) into the 1200a makes the head clog. Anyone else having this issue in post? So I’m hunting down a supply of red cap M cassettes for the HDX900 I have on order.

I’ve used the DVCPROHD path for a number of spots with this camera, works great. The 25mbs path is just a marketing pitch from Sony and Apple, looks like crap. 35mbs is the only way to use this fine camera. Sony should thank Panasonic for enabling the HDV and XDCAMHD cameras workflow with the editing codec.

I sometimes find the playback quality has been changed to less that “High” or “Dynamic”. Possible?

December 22, 2005 at 6:47 pm in reply to: my three week old 2.3ghz dualcore died today. ripFirewire is not hot swappable, or unplugable. No mater what the common wisdom is, both ends of a firewire connection/cable carry power, and a simple mis-step can cause a short and kill the firewire board on either the mac or the peripheral. FWIW.

October 21, 2005 at 6:03 pm in reply to: Which dual-core G5 for Uncompressed SD & DVC Pro HD?So, under that scenario, he’d be buying a PCI-x capture card knowing full well that it won’t work in the machines of tomorrow (literally-not some time in the future tomorrow-the quad 2.7 is shipping now) BTW, ATTO doesn’t even have a product for the PCIe slot. I like your idea of waiting for the Intel versions. (Maybe one less upgrage step-software is bad enough when you’re on a production schedule, but upgrading hardware i/o’s are nighmares.)
