Ouch! Maybe I should stop rubbing the cat on my sweater before I plug stuff into the mac…

I duno………your cat probably likes the attention. The only drawback to that is the looks from people when you answer the door and Fluffly is still stuck to the front of your sweater from the static cling.

So let me see if I have this straight; you have a cat named FireWire, and you tried to plug him into the computer?

Oh wait, your not Ben, nevermind. 🙂

Firewire is not hot swappable, or unplugable. No mater what the common wisdom is, both ends of a firewire connection/cable carry power, and a simple mis-step can cause a short and kill the firewire board on either the mac or the peripheral. FWIW.

    Richard,

You read my mind. I’ve never trusted FW to be used in any other fashion other than to treat it just like an electrical connection. To connect, turn everything off first. To disconnect, turn everything off first.
