As far as FCP goes, my Quad 2.5 running FCP 5.04 was as fast (renders etc.) and more responsive than my Intel with FCP 5.12. So don’t expect as much as you’d hope. Personally, I’d wait for another Octo rev, and the next FCP 6.x. FWIW.

My dual 2.0 Power PC running FCP 5.04 was just as fast as the newer Dual 2.66 Intel running 5.12. ( 4 Gb RAM in each)The speed increase comes when exporting files via FCP or Compressor. Nice, but not what I really wanted a faster machine for. However, the jump to FCP 6 will require the use of a new Intel Macs.

Thanks Walter for the clarification. In other words (if I have this right) except for mulitiple formats on a single timeline, the speed of RT effects/or renders will be the same if you’re working in just one codec on the timeline-ie.: DVCPROHD.

“The ProRes 422 codec lives inside the AJA ioHD box” That my fellow editors is the external balls of an FCP system with multiple formats on one timeline. Can’t wait for this to be on the shelf -so it can be in my suite. The upgrade to the quad core Intel box was a dissapointment in FCP speed improvement-I hope FCP/AJA has it right this time.

when i “removed attributes: filters” from a clip with a bcc4 filter applied, there was no image change. Upon opening the clip’s filter’s panel, FCP crashed. There was also a Title 3d clip above the image clip on the timeline.

If fyou email Boris support they will tell you that they are working on it- and NO it doesn’t work properly in all fucnctions-while it may “work” for some-it needs more development to be intergrated in a fully functional FCP system with an external i/o.

Get out your soldering iron. Fortunately the manual tells you exactly how to wire the 3 pin to the 5 pin. As far as crew rates go, I shoot with a 5.3×10 Angenieux on the HDX-900, 17″ Panasonic, HMI and Kino Flo’s -look much better than tungsten on location, and a stick and wireless with a sound/grip person for $3,100 and depending on the amount of additional lighting gear or mini track I might need, the rate can go to $3,700 with a prompter and operator. BTW, once the client has seen this camera on the Panny 17″, they are ready to use this camera on every shoot going forward. “Wow these new digital cameras really look very good now”. And anyone looking for a rental in the NE area, Rule Broadcast is an excellent rental source.

personal camera, and with no replacements in site, I won ‘t even be loaning this to my best friend. I’ll post a local (Boston) rental rate when I see that they have theirs.

Also my first HD camera-no more renting. I am trying to get more chroma saturation from this camera. After setting up the matrix and color correction using a chroma du monde chart, and setting to high color, I still would like more saturation. Any suggestions?
