That makes sense!
Thanks, I’ll try that and I’ll let you know the outcome. -
Thanks for the answer. So I’ll do that – rendering in 24p – if that’s the best I can do.
Just wondering, is there a technical problem for NTSC dvd player that prevent them to read PAL as well, or you think it’s just because there is no market demand? If PAL dvd players can read 30fps why don’t NTSC ones read 25fps? And after all, why do we keep using two different sistems!?

So, as I understood, if the project is in 25fps I just render it in 50i (that’s 25fps anyway, with 50 fields), and that just works fine.
Question: if I try to render a 25fps project to burn a dvd for the US, what should I do? I know I should have started the project in ntsc, but since it is already done what is my best option?
1) render in 50i, burn that and the US folks will cope with that.
2) render the 25fps project as if it was in 30fps.
3) change the project settings and then render.
4) give up any hope to get a decent result. Thanks for the help!

May 12, 2013 at 10:06 pm in reply to: Rendering in aspect ratio 1.85 has weird resultsOh, don’t worry about it. I can always letterbox and then use something like mpeg streamclip to crop the whole thing.
Thanks for the help – I gave up! -

Also, it may be worth knowing that if I put a solid color underneath the video layer (let’s say red), the side bars turn red, meaning that what I see is a random black bar, but it is what actually lies under the video track.
Moreover, another question: how come that if I have a 1920×1038 project and I import a 1920×1080 footage I cannot move the image up and down to “include” in the shot what I want, but the software automatically crops the footage on the top and on the bottom?
-
Ok, I’ll start from the beninning (creating a new project) so maybe it will be easier to find out what is my mistake.
I create a new project sized 1920×1038. I then import a footage shot at 1920×1080. Dropping the file, it creates 2 thin black bars on both sides (or at least, that is what I see on the preview window). It is maybe worth to notice that the footage has lost pixels at the top and at the bottom (as it should be).
I therefore open the pan/crop, right click on the media, Match Output Aspect. The bars are still there.
However, if render the footage (at 1920×1038) I notice that..there are no bars on the side! So why the heck there are bars on my preview window?
Thanks for the help.

May 4, 2013 at 11:55 pm in reply to: Rendering in aspect ratio 1.85 has weird resultsSure. What I meant was that in my past experience (with a different NLE) I found easy to render in 1.85 after letterboxing, and I thought I could do it with Vegas as well. My bad. In this peculiar case, to be honest, I started editing thinking that I wanted to keep the letterbox, and I changed my mind afterwards. So I was looking just for a way out.
I did already Match Output Aspect (following the easy workflow suggested by Aleksey in this post https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/24/957575) but still couldn’t get rid of the lateral bars. I tried several different things with no results.

All right. I can go on with the letterbox, I don’t mind too much. It’s just that I was used to another NLE and rendering in 1.85 was such an easy thing that I thought I could do it in Vegas with little trouble.
By the way, I tried to adjust the cropping already, but the lateral stripes don’t disappear.
Thanks.
