Billy, AE uses everything the computer can possibly give to it. Even if your on a dual Quad Xeon system with 16GB of memory (ive been there).
The only issue is the operating system. If your going to upgrade to 4GB og memory, you might want upgrade to a 64bit OS. On a 32bit system your memory will depend on how much video memory your graphics card has, and the size of your paging file. With that said, youll get 3.5+ish if your graphics card has under 512mb of vram.

The reason I cant base it on time is because I am animating the the speed at which the object moves. I had it set up to animate based on time before, the problem with that was that i could not make the animation speed up without making the contents within the animation speed up along the way.

I am animating clips moving horizontally on the screen. I want them to move faster at one point and then slow down, without speeding up the playback of the clips.

Well that’s a bummer, there should be something that retrieves the current location of the object your moving, dynamically.

My only other option is to increment a slider that will hold the current value of the position. Not sure if this will work but i will try it.
