I just connected up the lo and it is not recognised either.

It won’t capture with capture now.

Capture setting are aja sdi 8 bit to dvcpro 50 codec so it should capture. Mirror on desk top is on but the window is black and there is no file when I hit escape. I don’t think it will work because view ext. video keeps returning to off. I’ve re-trashed prefs again too. Because of our renovations all equip was disconected and the cableing is all heaped in several boxes. I’m having to dig for things. I can’t locate the component cables and fcp was set for YPbPr play back. This is where the av settings are currently locked. I can’t change them to sdi playback. I do get sdi from the deck to the lo and back out to the monitor through sdi from the lo but until I locate a set of component cables l can’t play a timeline to the monitor (from previuos proj.)

I’m thinking of picking up a new HDD tomorrow and pulling the system drives, booting from the tiger disc and installing everything from scratch. Then I get this job done and I can deal with this next week when the renos are complete and all the equip is back in place and all wired in properly. I’m all cramped in a little corner here with out much room to work on all this wireing etc. If I had dsp 4 on my old G4 I would have gone over to that system for this job. It has fcp 4 on it.

OK, refreshed em, what gets me is the view-external video always reverts back to off imediately.

I have an antique lacie 60 gig fw drive I can dig out but it often had problems not showing up too.

Yes this does set it all up properly but I got this far before using the easy set-up link but it is still not seeing the firewire device.
I’m thinking I could take a hammer and really smack the 6 pin connector on the end of the cable into the firewire socket it should connect.
I’m starting to worry that CharlieX2 may be right and my firewire bus is blown. I’ve never heard of this before and I would think there must be some type of firmware zap or something to wake up the bus.
Anyone know of a good firewire card for pci-x? It would be worth picking one up at this point.

I tried it but I’m not getting any option to choose dv ntsc.
I get:
remove from dock
open at log in
show in finder
or
open

if I choose open I get the same dialog ie: unable to locate external device…….

If I go directly to the fcp app icon and not the alias in the dock I get a bigger list of options but still no dv ntsc option. If I choose open there I get the same old same old again.

Thanks Ben, this does nothing. I actually had it all disconected and just connected the dv deck, opened fcp and tried to reset capture and project settings but was unable to do so. I’m ready to re-install tiger and fcp on a new hard drive and go from there. I need to author a dvd from this project too.

Hi, I usually am set up for dvcpro 50 so I guess the FCP restore app saves those settings. When I manually deleted the prefs I got rid of that setting and was able to set all for dv ntsc but no recognition of the hardware. I should be able to wipe all prefs and just with one firewire into the dsr-11, configure dv ntsc but no go so far.

Hi, I just tried pulling the plug, no change there.
I’m trying to get the IO going again but it is not responding, the system is looking for firewire dv ntsc now even though I reset to dvcpro 50 from Io through sdi 8bit to dvcpro 50 codec. (this is my normal configuration as we use dvcpro for aquisition). Looks like I have to trash prefs again to try to re-configure the Io. I just need to capture dv for a short job. All this when I’m in the middle of a renovation in the edit room. Everything was disconnected and rolled in a corner while a wall was removed. Now I’m set up in 1/2 the space with a plastic barrier keeping out the dust from the reno, I have to re-wire the dvcpro deck, lo etc just to try it when all I want to do is the dv job, then rewire everything when it is in place after the remo.

I don’t have a pci firewire card to try and I sure hope I didn’t fry any buses. It seems to me last time I captured dv I had a bit of hassle but all I had to do was disconnect the Io.

Where I live in B.C., Canada it is law that contracts have up to 90 days to pay. What I learned from my bookkeeper is you offer a 3% discount if payment is recieved withinin 15 days of the date on the invoice, even the government wants to take advantage of this 3% savings! You are allowed to charge the going rate of interest after 30 days at 30 day intervals. Most of my clients pay within the 1st. 30 days.

Knowing bookkeepers like I do, his 3% discounted rate is actually his real rate, the hourly rate he must charge and he’s actually inflated his fees to allow him to offer the supposed 3% discount. Although we all know it we still must pay within 15 days to avoid paying another 3% using this method.

Unfortunatly sales peoples’ advice is very often based on manufactuter incentives (like your distributor tells you “if you sell $20,000 worth of xyz name goods in a month and you could win a trip to Honalulu”) This is common practice in sales. Other times it may be based on markup %. xyz brand has 100% mark-up wheareas sony, panny, jvc and canon only have a 10 or 20% mark-up. These are common reasons sales people guide you to certain products.

You are doing the right thing here by getting yourself informed from users of equipment and don’t let sales people tell you different. Most of us have gone out to purchase a certain item only to come home with something different. We then have to live with the inferior product for years to come.

It may be worth paying 50% down on a great monitor and having a good dealer finance the other half rather than getting something that is inferior that you are stuck with for the next several years worth of work.

I was down in Monterey once, about 30 years ago. Nice place. I’m in a small town here and I have hourly rates for each deck I use for a dub. Beta sp to component dvcam is $120.00 (60/60) per hr and I’m told my rates are really good compared to other locals who do it. There’s not much call for it here either, actually it’s usually the other way around, dvcam to beta sp. Always good to compare, thanks for the info.
