B&H list is $1849.00 but when you add it to your shopping cart you get a better price. $1599.00. I’ve had mine about 4 years and it works great other than it is very sensitive to loading either large or small tapes. If you load either type even slightly unevenly (one side slightly ahead of the other) the tape jams and you have to take the cover off. I don’t know if I got a lemon but I’ve learned to feed the tape extremely carefully and I haven’t jammed a tape in it for about 3 years. This deck is a bargan at these prices. Originally it sold for around $2500.00.

Did you check “include chapter markers” in the 3rd dropdown menu (markers) in the qt export menu?

Start by making sure you have a good factoty cd that is the same version of the song that was played during filming and converting it to aiff from itunes.
Often when we make digital copies of cd’s and play them back on our drives there are problems with the quality of the cd media used or the read/write laser head in the burner or maybe it’s a scratch or finger print on the disc. This can cause jumps on playback, maybe just one or two bits on the surface of the cd in the reader. If this occurred during your shoot you will never get the sync on. I’ve been given cd’s where this was obvious as you could hear whole words jump.

Yes, in 1998 a law was passed that all tv broadcast in the US was to be digital (mpeg2) by 2006. I think there have been no clevats to the law since. You may still recieve some local stations who still broadcast analog rf locally.

I got my 23″ display from apple.com next day and I’m in Canada. It cost me an extra $30.00 for the faster service but that’s a steal for overnight fedex for a box that big. I guess they have a great volume rate from fedex. In theory there is less loading and unloading with overnight air as oppossed to ground. This is where all the sliding down ramps and dropping off carts occurs. These are things that loosen the cards in the slot etc. Even my monitor arrived with a 4″ wide hole in the side of the box and I made the driver wait till I opened it and notate this on the invoice. I guess this is a good argument for driving to the brick and mortar location where they set up your system and install the os right there and there is no other handling after that point. You know it’s tip top when you pick it up whereas it could leave the factory tip top but it may not arrive to you that way if there’s a shipping process in between.

Hi Chuck, thanks for thew info. Are they saying remove the door on the G5 or remove the panel on the front of the burner tray? I can see removing the door on the G5 case as there are so many holes in the mesh around it, it surely would not introduce any extra dust or be a prob for cooling. I wouldn’t want to remove the front of the tray as that could allow dust into the burner. The OWC link didn’t work and I scouwered their tek support for instructions for a G5 but found none.
Maybe I should just leave well enough alone as it works good now. Glad to hear others are using this drive in their G5’s too. -
What is the actual brand of this drive or does MCE actually manufacture it?

I just blew my oa7 in my dual 2gig and when the locals wanted $170.00 for a pioneer dvr-110 which I read have some issues I decided to buy a pioneer dvr-111 for $40.00!!!. I didn’t do the research you did though, I just assumed apple uses pioneer -right? so surely it would work. I installed it and when I went to open the tray the silver curtain on the G5 case opened and the tray started to come out but then it hit the top of the openning on the G5 case. I took the burner out and compared to the old one and sure enough the tray is 1/8th” thicker than the old drive. Since these things will work sideways and my floor ain’t that level I took out the 2 front mounting screws that act as 1/8th” spacers and that lock into the neat little lever locks that the G5’s have to allow us to replace them so easily. This did it, the drive sits down enough in the front for the tray to open through the slot in the G5 case. I only have the 2 rear spacer mount studs now to lock into the rear lever locks and hold the drive in place so I wedged a piece of dense foam on the top of the drive to add some stabillity when I move the computer around and I used a small piece up there so as no to block the air flow needed for cooling. I burned 4 discs using “best” speed and I’ve also watched 2 movies and everything is working great. Even the menus and response time when you put a disc in seem really fast. So far it seems like a great drive. I’m keeping my fingers crossed! I have the latest updates installed from apple.

Great advice Charlie! I was just about to post this- I installed said card and I have lock on dv video in the capture window. I’m going back to work now and won’t even think about the “other issue” till I have the edit suite properly set-up and I can try to figure it out. This will do it till this project is done in the mean time so thankyou everyone for all the help. If I find out my firewire bus has fried itself I’ll be sure to post it. That type of thing should be a known issue (or have I been sleeping). I route beta sp, drs-85 and dvcpro all component or sdi through the lo so rarely capture mini dv through firewire so have not encountered this issue before. Charlie’s mention of it was the 1st I’d heard of such a thing.
